How Caviar is Taking Care of Drivers During Coronavirus

TLDR: Couriers are getting hand sanitizer and gloves (hooray!). Customers can start asking you to leave food at the door to minimize contact (yes please). Food packaging can't transmit the virus (good to know). If you do happen to catch Coronavirus, you can get two weeks of financial assistance (let's hope you don't need it).

Stay safe out there everyone!

Full Statement from Caviar

At Caviar, our number one priority is the health and safety of the members of our community. We know you have questions and I want to personally ensure you that we are monitoring the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) closely. We are consulting health experts and monitoring expert recommendations including guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, and local health officials.

Beyond simply monitoring the situation we are taking active measures to make sure the food that gets delivered to your home is safe, secure, and delicious. In affected areas, we have begun distributing hand sanitizer and gloves to Couriers. And to reduce the risk of transmission, we recommend that our community in affected areas use the Delivery Instruction feature in the app (which you can find at checkout). Here you can tell your courier how you would like your order delivered, and request that your food be left at the door or another safe place of your choosing.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have no reports of human illnesses that suggest COVID-19 can be transmitted by food or food packaging but we remain vigilant in working with restaurants to ensure efficacy and safety remain the top priority.

During this time of uncertainty, we also want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of the Couriers. To support the Courier community, we’ve introduced a COVID-19 Financial Assistance Program, which will provide up to two weeks of assistance to eligible Couriers who are diagnosed with COVID-19 or who are subject to individual quarantine at the direction of public health officials. Health and safety are all of our responsibilities.

We encourage you to practice safety measures at home and when you're out. Wash your hands with soap and water frequently, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your elbow if you have to sneeze or cough, and please stay home if you are sick. Take measures to avoid unnecessary contact with large crowds and confined gatherings of people to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

We thank you for your continued support, and we will continue to keep you informed as we take action. Tony Xu CEO, DoorDash and Caviar #coronavirus #deliverydriver #policy

I will definitely be using more delivery in the next few weeks so it is a relief that more companies are helping out the drivers
