Any advice ?

I've moved from texas to baton rouge La, I have been here a month , quite an experience but I am enjoying the new view . I previously worked at a hotel for 8 years from the bottom to the top ! I was truly heartbroken when my last day of work approached due to husband relocating , nevertheless I trusted that with my experience in the costumer service industry / hotel chain that I wouldn't have trouble finding a job . BULL LOL ...EVERY position that applied for from hotels to generic stores to anything was not either available or I was overqualified . Had a interview last week with a GM of a local hotel during the interview she told me with your experience and qualifications and references I can not hire you I asked why she said and I quote sweetheart you are more experienced in this field than I am , you obviously know way more than me and I would be jeopardizing my job if I hired you , I have to look out for myself. I laughed and simply said if you were so good at your job sweetheart you wouldn't have a problem when people like me walk in your door and you must not be doing something right " smiled and walked away . Now I feel like my experience could actually harm me than help me should I lie and say I don't have experience so I can get hired ? I have another interview tomorrow not sure how to approach this one . Another thing I have filled out at least 100 application on line never got a response all my interviews are based on talking to people asking questions .

Charlotte: DO NOT let this alleged "hiring manager" or anyone else, intimidate you into believing you have too much of anything....today's world of interviewing is tough....experience, credentials, education, etc....you can NEVER have too much..."she" has reason to be afraid because if she loses her job...SHE will have a tough time getting another one. Keep moving forward like you are and stop thinking you need to diminish any of your great experience or education or anything...YOU are YOU! The right company will appreciate who and what you bring to the table....the wrong ones...will hire individuals like her...they would not have served your purpose and would have brought you down..Move UP and be happy! This was not the right one!

Hi Charolette Long , that's the type of feedback a highly skilled and qualified candidate like yourself never wants to hear but we have to admire that hiring managers honesty. Now, I'm not suggesting she's right in her comment but job applicants rarely receive that type of feedback and are often left wondering why they didn't get an offer for a job they know they're well qualified to perform.

Fear of job security is not a valid enough reason to not hire a strong candidate, period! Clearly that organization operations not structured to promote employee development and advancement if it support a culture driven by fearful middle and upper management.

I wouldn't suggest downplaying the education, skills, and accomplishment information on your resume Charolette Long . Instead, focus on companies that offer solid mid to upper Management career progression policies and encourage employee progression practices. No sense in downplaying your self to land in a job you'll grow out of within 90 days. Go for jobs your that meet your career goals and you're qualified to perform.
