Wait for old job,or possibly take a new one
Hello my fellow jobcasers it's been well over a year since I've been on with you all! Been a busy hard year for me. And this Covid isn't helping. I had finally landed a good paying job that I loved until I had a medical issue occur and I had to take a leave of absence the end of February. Dr. Said it was take the leave or possibly loose a foot! As much as I had been dealing with the pain of this issue for quite awhile I finally listened, even though I knew I wasn't going to have an income coming in. Since you can't collect unemployment if you aren't able to work. And it would've taken way to long if I had applied for temporary disability. I'm really kind of sad now,my job had promised that if I took care of myself & got back to 100% that I'd still have a place to go back to when I was healed. Not expecting all of this Covid to happen, with alot of his family being out of work/school themselves. He's taken a few of them on to help them out until thing's go back to "Normal" and he doesn't have room for me to come back right now! Very very disappointed, after going this long without pay do I wait until all the family goes back to their lives? Or do I find something else and move on? I really really loved the job & would also love to wait but bills need to be paid and savings are dwindling. I have the opportunity to possibly step into another job, don't know for sure yet. Interview sat morning. The pay is better, being salary & health/dental insurance which I didn't have before. But also a family owned business, which I love. I know the smart thing would be to check out the other job, even though it's about a 40 minute ride one way. But the hour's are perfect and I'd be off the same day's as my hubby! #helpnoincome #needsomeadvice #foodservice #outofwork #interview
Hey Aisha, long time no see! Glad to see you back in the community. First off, how’s your health? I’m happy to hear that you finally decided to take time off work for your treatment. Attaining good health is Essential to overall well being and quality of life.
Don’t undervalue your decision to seek treatment despite your current work and/or financial situation. Remember, your current employment circumstance is only temporary not permanent.
The COVID-19 outbreak surprised us all. This unprecedented pandemic has interrupted our economy in a way that not even our economic and health experts know how or when we’ll be able to get ‘back to normal’. It’s important to remain optimistic but also attentive to the big picture so we’re able to identify new options and be ready to pivot towards those opportunities at a moments notice. Jason Roberson shared a very interesting post recently that offers some excellent insight and perspective on opportunity awareness, see Finding Opportunity (Take this short test)
Waiting for your previous job to get back to normal is an option worth considering if you’re that interested in regaining that job. The employment community is loaded with temporary and seasonal job opportunities right now.
Granted, these temp jobs might not be ideal roles you are used to but can be used as a means to an end while your other job prospect becomes a reality. If you decide to go this route, however, make sure you give yourself a timeline.
3, 6 or 9 months is a reasonable amount of time. Anything after 9 months puts you at risk of loosing out on better long term job options.
Please make sure you go to your interview on Saturday. The job opportunity you describe has too many pro’s for you not to attend the interview. Try to pursue it like it’s you’re only career job option right now because it might be just that if this economy doesn’t improve.
Best of Luck on your interview and please come back and update us on your progress with that job. You Got This!
We also have temp/seasonal job leads to share with you if you decide to go that route, okay.
Stay Safe and Have a Great Weekend!
