Contingent/contract workers advice wanted
Being a contract worker and seeing a lot of people around me whose assignments are 'ended', it makes me stressed to know how disposable I am. I don't feel secure in my position, and I'm constantly scrutinizing my performance to try to not be fired, basically. Sometimes the anxiety is overwhelming and it makes it even harder to get as much done as I want to. It's bled into my personal life and i keep doubting how i am as a person and as a partner. How do you deal with this/have you found a way to deal with this and to keep it separate from your personal life? Thanks for listening to me, it's been weighing on me for a couple months.

Hey Sarah Greendoner , put yourself in a situation where you can have more control of your job/career destiny. The true nature of a contractor or temp workers are that work assignments start and eventually end. Accepting this fact should instantly begin to reduce your anxiety and stress levels significantly! :-)
Take Control! Ask a manager about temp to hire opportunities and let them know that you're very interested. It sounds like the leadership at that company values your job performance since you’ve managed to survive all the recent cutbacks so offer them an opportunity hire you on permanently.
If they give you a thumbs up try to get specific hiring details, next step activities, and a who’s who follow up structure so you can stay abreast of the hiring process. If this isn’t an option then immediately start to kick up your job search options outside that company/assignment.
Good temp agencies also take care of their workers so rest assured there’s a very high probability you’ll be placed in another assignment if that one was to end.
Establishing a solid work/life balance can only be achieved when you begin to define the controllables and uncontrollables within your professional and personal lives. We just met and I can sense your sincerity you express as you talk about your passion and commitment towards doing a job well done everytime you walk into your workplace. You should be proud of that @sarah because those qualities speak volumes about your personality and are also priceless employees attributes to employers.
Take steps towards a permanent role, continue to work smart, and at the end of the day reward yourself by enjoying your time with friends and family.
