Are there any technician jobs out there that are not so rough on your knees and back ?

I have around 30 years of technical experience in just about every facet of the telecom and IT world. I am almost 50 and the years of climbing telephone and power poles and ladders and crawling in crawl spaces and attics and overhead cable runs is taking a toll on my back and knees. #jobsearch #careerchange

Mechanical Engineer at Idexx Laboratories

Look for Validation Technician positions at Sterilization companies (like Steris). I did it for awhile. One member of my team was 61 years old and she never complained about back or knees pains. And the pay rate is reasonable.

I've been climbing cell towers and broadcast towers since the late 90s. I suggest if you want something easy on your knees and back DONT be a tower hand. its very brutal at times. I don't think I need to state the obvious dangers...

You need to be involved with some sort of physical training which will enable your body to support you on the job. If you do no physical training your body will quickly deteriorate and will reach a point where you become unable to work. I would recommend swimming laps as an excellent antidote to the physical stress your body must endure while you are on the job. There are other good exercises such as working a stationary bicycle but that does not address the body as a whole the way swimming does. Whatever your condition, to be effective the exercise you select should make you out of breath. The time frame for this will fluctuate based on the state of your mind and also your body. If you don't know how to swim, no problem, you can get lessons at any local YMCA or other swim club. Take care of your body and shun fast and processed foods. Eat as much fresh produce as you are comfortably able, preferably raw, not cooked. Also, what is very good for your joints and the apparatus that is operative there is cod-liver oil. Buy this as a liquid (no caplets) and keep it refrigerated all the time otherwise it will quickly go rancid. Carlson is a great brand and also the Whole Foods brand is of good quality as well. It is also beneficial to take, in addition to the cod-liver oil, a good quality vitamin E supplement. Solgar is the brand I prefer but the Bluebonnet line of supplements is also of high quality. 400 I.U. is all you would need for one day. The vitamin E protects the delicate fats in the cod-liver oil from going rancid in you body. I highly recommend it as it has many other benefits too numerous to itemize here. That is my best recommendation. Discuss your problem with your physician before you take action and feel free to discuss the contents of this note with your physician before you do anything. This is my best advice. You are free to do with it what you will.
