Update from Colleen M

I have been looking for jobs since Sep 2019. I was terminated after people did not understand my issues at the time.

Feb 2020 I was finally diagnosed with autism amongst major other medical things.

Mar 2020 COVID-19 hits - everyone hates it - I know

July 2020 still looking for a job and have sent out e-resumes. I would not recommend using vocational rehab services during a pandemic - unless they are really active.

Also thinking of putting in a profile on fiverr.com and try my hand at home freelance work in genealogy & heraldry.

Anyone with tips on the online world? Thanks!

I'm 72, and no one is hiring me as a legal sec. 2 years ago my boss closed his legal practice (I was a legal sec there for 18 years. Later that year I found a lovely job online doing legal transcription from home as an Independent Contractor. Then all of a sudden Feb 12 the online company terminated my contract because of this stupid Calif Assembly Bill 5 which became law on 1/1/20. This Bill is for drivers, but it's affected all sorts of ICs. What am I going to do now. Is Gov. Newsome (who signed this Bill into law) going to pay my Bill's now?? He hasn't answered my letters, neither has Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez who introduced this stupid Bill.

Hi Colleen, unless you live in another state rather than California, forget online work. The California Assembly Bill 5 does not let us be Independent Contractors or freelancers unless we have our own business or are employees. I know, as I lost a much-loved online legal transcription job in Feb which I was doing from home because of this stupid Calif AB5. Hopefully you don't live in Calif, and I wish you all the best in finding an online job.
