Will they be okay with it?
Hey everyone! Swifthawk here! Okay. So as you all know I work as a cashier at Walmart. Now don't get me wrong, I'm very thankful for the job, but everyday it feels like someone is stabbing me over and over in the back. It's causing me to limp, it's causing me to wince, yelp (literally yelping like a dog) in front of the customers, it's causing me to move slower than I want to (I move very fast nowadays), it's making me feel like I'm going to break my spine. Now, I'm not asking for any kind of pity on this, you know what I mean? I get that a lot of people out there are also going through pain like that. Now here's my question: Will Walmart accept it if I asked them to switch my position to something more easygoing? I've come to learn that I cannot work as a cashier because of the sharp pain in my back.
They do promote from within for other departments. Interview for customer service or the apparel attendant position. You would also answer phones and page managers, customers and other employees. Ben there, done that and loved my job.🌞
Don't want to sound harsh but what other job are they going to give you that is less strenuous? A greeter? You could see if they would retrain you at the Customer Service Desk, but I doubt they would after training you to be a cashier. Your in high school for God's sake! All of the other jobs there are going to require a lot of walking around and pushing stock and stocking product on basically a cement floor. And the cashiers have a mat that they stand on. If you cannot handle a position that is probably the most stationary position there, what are they going to reassign you to do?
Phoebe has it covered, a good foot doctor may be able to alleviate the pain with the correct shoes and insoles. Start yoga like Phoebe it will be good for your well-being.Ford ( I bought a foot massager and it is quite a necessary part of my daily routine).
Hi @Stormfrost ....! I'm so happy to hear that you're on the schedule and have started the job at Walmart! It's possible there will be a lot of growing pains as you adjust to the work, but it is also always okay to inform management when you're struggling. Our bodies can only do so much, and each one is unique in it's needs and capabilities. I would strongly recommend seeing a professional just to make sure there isn't a bigger issue - often Chiropractors will have deals on GroupOn and offer free X-rays or reduced services - see if you can find a place to go to check up on this pain. If you find that you're unable to be moved to less physical work or find relief with a doctor, I would recommend doing as much bodywork as you can outside of work to help yourself have an easier time. It may be necessary to stretch before and after shifts, to find more comfortable shoes, to work on your posture or movement and you may need to adjust how you rest and recharge. Don't wait to rule out something serious, but otherwise make sure selfceare is your #1 priority outside of work! 💚💙✨

not for those reasons. in fact they will give you a choice to work or quit. mostly all positions at any retail requires some standing. lifting or physical stamina. you are not going to be sitting around all day because you are in pain. that is work for you. it is your job to make sure you manage your health problems. other than that if you can't perform the job it is best to look for some other jobs that aren't too demanding.

It is hard to find dependable employees in the current job market. I would ask for a meeting with your immediate supervisor. Explain you are having Heath difficulties, you enjoy working at Walmart & do not want to leave. Ask how you could apply to be relocated to a different position that you can perform without difficulties. Positive vibes sent your way from Anderson SC
