Advocating with the Senator!
My favorite days are when I meet jobcasers. My second favorite are when I am out there advocating for them. Today is one of those days but what made it even more special was doing so with Senator Joe Manchin. Jobcase Team likes politicians and public servants who care about people and can get stuff done for them. Senator Manchin is one such public servant.
He asked us to put together www.DiscoverWVjobs.com. We’ll keep making it better, but drop me a line if you have any suggestions
Cheers! #StrongerTogether #WestVirginia

Almost Heaven, West Virginia! -( lets share some of the reasons why!)
I am so excited to be heading to West Virginia tonight. Anyone who has visited there knows it is a beautiful state (as John Denver knew in his famous song). But did you know that there are some great things happening economically? That the government, with leadership such as with Senator Manchin's office, is working really hard to promote thousands of open jobs there, recruit new industry and businesses and put Government, non-profits and for-profits together to help West Virginia working families? It's true and it's pretty exciting to see commitment like this that crosses boundaries. If you haven't checked out jobs in WV, I suggest you do.
We will be rolling out a section of Jobcase just for WV this week (and already plans under way to keep improving it as we roll into September). I'll post more about it later. But first a question:
What's your favorite thing bout West Virginia? Hopefully some West Virginians can offer some thoughts, but I welcome anyone who has visited there to share as well... #AlmostHeaven #WestVirginia #WV #share #opportunity #StrongerTogether

Help!! Finding a job in a dying state.
Hello,
I currently reside in WV, where unemployment rate is one of the highest in the nation and jobs pay $8.75 and $9 and hr for FULL TIME. . . I recently moved back to WV after living in NC for 15 years I have over 6 years of customer service experience but yet no Employer wants to hire me. I worked for almost a year at a Call Center and needless to say it was hectic but the best money around here. The Vocational Schools only teach construction and universities only teach Medical Field Jobs and I am not cut out to handle body’s or even commit to 2 years of school where I would only make $11 an hr anyway. Please if anybody has any good advice for a young person trying to maintain mental happiness... positive vibes would be greatly appreciated...
Tired Job Seeker.

Great day in West Virginia...
We love advocating for Jobcasers and we love meeting them in person. Last week gave us the chance to do both! Here's more on the great day (plus a nice Jobcase shoutout from a U.S. Senator!).

Time to follow up!
Don’t let employers forget about you once the job fair ends...
Now is the time to follow up!
-Do it sooner rather than later 1-2 business days after the job fair is ideal.
-Make it personal Remember that employers have met and spoken to MANY people at the fair, so it’s unlikely they will automatically remember you. If you had a good conversation, make note of something you discussed and mention it in the email.
-Reach out to the right people Whether you jotted the employer’s email address down in a notebook or you took their business card, make sure to reach out. If you did neither don't worry, you can go to the company's website and look for the hiring manager's email. Once you have found it follow up with a friendly email.
-What to say In the email, explain how excited you’d be to work for them. Mention the main reasons why you would be the right person for the job by emphasizing your strengths and capabilities while demonstrating that you are a great fit. Keep it short and straight to the point.
Here is what a sample follow up email could look like:
Hi [Name],
It’s [your name], we met at [name of the job fair] this past [date]. I know your inbox is probably quite a busy place right now, but I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to speak with me. I…. (Include any personal connections you made here, for example, I can’t believe we both attended Maryville High school). I would be thrilled for the opportunity to interview with [Xompany Name] for the position of [the position title] that you’re currently offering. I believe that my skills are strongly in line with this position’s requirements and my overall experience in [add in your special skill/experience] would be especially valuable when… [connect your skills to what they need]. I have attached my resume for you to look over when you have a free moment.
Thank you again [their name] for your time. I look forward to speaking soon!
Best, [Your Name]
If you landed a job at the West Virginia job fair let us know the good news and post it [HERE in the community] (https://www.jobcase.com/community)!
Good luck to all those who attended! : )
