My first Boss (intimidatingly large fellow in belt and suspenders and a classic 80's banking hairdoo) would admonish me with "Goff, you are a non-reader!" when I missed something obvious in a contract or memo. I actually like reading fiction and books in general, but I move fast and can get sloppy with interpretation of office docs and business papers- and in this world where everything is moving faster and faster and thoughts are reduced to 140 characters, its even easier to glance over and miss longer messages in emails or letters and such.
But, slow down. Read. Digest.
So often the employer's interview notes, job offers, or rejection letters have details that could impact your decision or give you strategies for success. I see my welcome message to Jobcasers sometimes be mis-interpreted as a job-offer at Jobcase Inc. While we'd love to hire thousands, we just don't have the resources for that (we only have about 100 of us building this platform for everyone right now). I get what happens. People are busy. A long message comes in, you glance, and potentially surmise the wrong gist of the message. But in todays speed of action - suggest we all SLOW DOWN. Take a minute to make sure you read a full msg and understand fully whats going on.
I continue to work on this myself, so I know slowing down and reading fully can take a bit of discipline. But it also can lead to better performance, and grabbing more opportunity!
