I had a Temp jobOut East for Alan Schneider Assocs and drove all the way to Montauk. I love to drive.

I enjoyed Temp jobs because you get to see the people you will be working with, some people are real nice and some you want to stay away from. But mostly everyone is real nice. You might want to take temp jobs once in awhile to show the Mgrs you appreciate them calling you to work for them.

Not sure what to do...

I've been working in the mental health field for 8 years and now I have to transition to another field of work due to my driving record. Ive worked two jobs, in the same line of work, to stay afloat but now that seems impossible. Prior to mental health I worked in customer service, logistics and I was even a receptionist but I guess because the experience isn't recent I'm not getting any interviews for these types of positions. Even temp agencies aren't giving me any opportunities.

Any ideas on how to make myself more marketable would be appreciated.

Help! They fired me.

Last week I was doing a haul and the dispatcher told me I had to make it by 6 that night. It was my own STUPID fault but I drove faster than I ever do. I just really wanted to shut him the hell up and make it there. Well it rained hard earlier that day and I hit a big puddle. The truck skid and I flipped it onto its side. I called it in right away and then yesterday my boss told me I am fired. I couldn’t believe it!!!!! Anyone else ever get into an accident? I can't be the only one! Not sure what to do now.

I had NO idea!

I am sure any fellow trucker could tell you that they cover a LOT of ground. I had no idea how much.

This is pretty amazing!

Interested in becoming a truck driver?

Let us know so we can help! : )

When will interviewers stop using the 'you don't have car' excuse?

When potential employers say things like: Well you don't have a car...how would you get to work if mass transit doesn't run on time?

I always answer with: When the train or bus doesn't run on time, there is another one usually ten minutes away, so it's not a huge deal. If you leave early enough (which people who commute vis mass transit usually do) you can still hustle and make it with time to spare. When your car breaks down, you're pretty much f -ed unless you understand how to get to work by mass transit, but by this time you're so used to taking your car to work that it'll take time to look up directions to work, figure out how to get to the train, buy a metrocard, etc. I'd rather hire an employee who knows how to take mass transit.

Discouraged

My area is rather remote and jobs clearly are few and far between. To top it off - I am truly surprised the companies that hire families and boyfriends and girlfriends. Many organizations that try to help feel I can travel across Lake Champlain with ease to work. There is a ferry and 90 minute drive 1 way to get to the bigger cities. I cannot accept a min wage job with ferry and gas expenses. Is anyone familiar with Burlington, VT area? I have a 4 yr degree in Business Management and Marketing. 18 plus years in clerical positions. I would love to go back to working for myself again but getting started again has been also discouraging. It's a lot of work and lots of hours and I was always the happest. I need it to pay my mortgage and insurances is what causes a lot of problems. Ideas, suggestions are appreciated.
