If you have passions, you are not getting angry when you asking them to be quite, to respectful and behave properly it is a good idea to be a sub teacher.

I would share my pleasant experiences.

Drama at #Substituteteacher
Most of the classroom teachers I’ve worked with and for have been appreciative. I’ve l left them notes of what goes on in the classroom. I’ve had two bad experiences that left a negative impression to me about those two teachers. The first one, returned during the day before I left a verbally attached me over something minor. The second one left a very bad follow up note about me and said she did not want me to return to her room. On this particular class, I had relieved a teacher partway through the day. I looked over what was left to do and got the students started. I stacked all the papers collected neatly in a table. There was so much paperwork done just could not catch up like others. At the end of the day I searched for a vacuum and found a push one non elecitric and sweap around the carpet. I left a note and mentioned there was too much work for them to do. (I do not think it was extra work but what was expected.) Anyhow, this teacher gave me a bad recommendation to the school.

I decided to work for #Substituteteacher because...
I was an older students returning to college for my certification. It was difficult to get a job so I decided to substitute. I’ve subbed for many years at various school districts. Some I like better than others. My greatest challenge as a sub was classroom management. If you cannot get this under control serving as a substitute teacher will be very frustrating. I felt over the years I learned this quite well. I enjoy talking with the older students and discussion, and the sweetness of the little ones.

What I loved working at #Substituteteacher
I loved the challenge of a difficult period. I enjoyed the students!

Be prepared! Take some extra things with you to do with the students in case you have some down time, bring some rewards, and be firm in supporting the regular teacher’s rules.

Go prepared to teach, not to rely on TV or movies. Prepare an group of appropriate lesson plans to take with you, just in case the teacher for whom you are substituting left in an emergency and did not have time to leave one. It never happened to me but knowing you are prepared just in case, makes your teaching day much easier.
