My advice to people interested in working at #HeatherKnollretirementnursinghome as a #Superviser,/ass.manager ...

Hello My name is Theresa Smith I worked at Heather Knoll for eight years from 1998-2006, it was a great experience for me. I got to meet some wonderful people there, the co-workers where pleasant to work with. When in an emergency we all pulled together as one and got the job done. This job was my second job there in Ohio, I was planning on retiring from there but things happened. I would tell others do go there get the experience of a life time. Getting to know the residents and their family is like having a second one. You get to know what their lives were like and what they went through at your age and learn their whole life history, something you never learned in school. Working at Heather Knoll is a great learning, experience in the medical place to get started in, no matter what department you apply for. With this being said good luck to all, in what ever decision you make. Theresa Smith

It's near impossible once you hit 50 to re enter the workforce

I 'retired' from a long and successful career in commercial casualty claims after caring for my husband for nine months while he was dying from cancer. I wasn't able to return to my former position due to my mindset at the time, and the obligations of the position. It's been two years and I'm attempting to re-enter the workforce in some type of casualty claims role, but not seeing much promise. Looking for suggestions as I'm weighing my career path options. I've been in claims and/or legal since 1989

Still looking

So I retired Friday. I am having the hardest time finding a new career. I don't fully get it. I have 17 years experience working with the Army but, trying to parle those skills into something civilians understand is hard. I have an active DoD clearance and helped the Army develop Electronic Warfae training and systems. I am a communications expert and don't mind going to austere countries. I have had a few interviews and often I am over qualified or not technical enough. The Army left me with little but, I am on a time table here. Quite frustrating to say the least.

Age seems to be a factor here

I am a student at a community college at age 63. Working on an associate degree for human services. The problem I'm having is I have put five resumes in and no one is calling back, even after the few interviews I have did. One is in dire need of relief help as what I applied for. They have said corie check is 1-3 weeks, it is going on five weeks and they claim they still haven't heard back from the check. In the mean time I'm jobless and money is slowly going down.I think it might be the age and they can't tell me this. I don't know if it's worth it to continue school any more? I have been semi retired from trucking for a few years before going to school last January (2016).

Civilian General Schedule Managment practices

I was a GS civilian. I started in 1978 and retired in 2016. I was promoted from GS 5, 7, 9 while working at APG, MD. Our government forces others and I to move to Fort Lee VA or lose your job. I was not electable to retire and it created arguments between my wife an I for a year up until the final day to move. Civilian management stated promotions for all that move to Ft Lee VA. That was a fat lie for all the GS employees that were forced to move. I had to live in the building I worked in on the military post because I did not have a place to live and no Funds to get my own place to live. I worked there for 7 years and never got a promotion as management stated. I had to hide all my living things and leave the shop and return later to shower and prep for bed on a hard floor. I found out a gs 12 was leaving to a gs 13 position and I told by my supervisor I want here position and he stated do you have A degree. I told him I am in at the end of my third year completing and my supervisor said your not getting that job. Fellow military and civilians said I should have been given that job because of my knowledge and years of experience. I was admitted to the hospital to have a stent placed in my heart and my GS civilians did not call or come to inquire as to my progress. I walked in my supervisors office and stated I am retiring Jan 31 2016. I don't stress anymore an my health is a lot better. All civilian grades need to be eliminated from all military schools across the US.
