Are you quitting out of fear?

Quitting on your mind? Ask yourself if the reason you want to quit really has more to do with fear. Fear of asking for what you need and what you want. Is this fear keeping you from having a dialogue with the person(s)/situation making you want to quit?

Many years ago, my friend Kevin was in a situation at work. He had an important position in a job he loved, but was technically challenged. For his job, he was told he needed to advance his technology skills. Kevin was so fearful, that he was unable to move forward. Kevin was emotionally paralyzed, and did not ask for help. Instead, he quit the job he loved rather than confront his biggest fear.

Over the course of my working life, I too have experienced this fear. I was working at a company in an Inside Sales capacity. It was a wonderful company with an interesting product. A match made in heaven! I loved being on the phone. Enjoyed my customers. Until...

A new President was brought in. Nice fellow. Very amiable and kind. Let’s call him Hugo. One day, Hugo decides that he is going to take me with him to give a complete presentation to an important client. The presentation would consist of how our whole computer system works, as well as a rundown of all of our products. At this point, I had been with the company about 2 months. Now, I knew the products I was selling, but the computer system? Not enough to give a presentation to a client. Aside from all that, the thought of giving a live presentation to a group of people was so frightening that, yep, you know what’s coming. I gave notice.

Fear can make a reasonable person do unreasonable things. Would I quit today given that same situation? Not on a bet! I would have a dialogue instead.

Fear is only one aspect of why people quit their jobs. Obviously, there are many other reasons. Make sure that your leaving for all the right ones. So, before you quit your job today, have a dialogue instead.

All the very best,

Bridget

People are just so mean.

I am planning to quit because I could not stand anymore co-workers who are mean and hateful. They accuse me of not doing my job. I have been a good and hard-working employee and never had any complaint against me.

Has anyone ever walked out

Recently I left a job with no notice given, how I was treated prior to my notice could be a novel. Anyone else ever do this?

Bad Boss

How about this.... I worked at a place, just recently quit. I had worked there for almost 12 years. Dedicated and extremely loyal to this guy and his business. So, I have recently obtained my Food Safety Management Certification and since that class I notice all things filthy, stored, etc. I get easily grossed out now. It was a busy Friday night and my boss had asked everyone where two orders of 8 day old fish had disappeared to. It was busy, so I just shrugged it off. I didn't confess at the moment because I could tell he just wanted to fight with me and I was to busy pushing food out for this guy. (silly me) Anyways, I had thrown them away earlier in the day. They were 8 days old!! Shelf life of fried fish is 2-4 days!!! My boss went to the dumpster and dug them out of a full trash bag of nastiness!! YUP! He then proceeded to tell everyone there was no work for anyone until someone confessed. Lmfaoo! That's against the law. And the two orders of fish sat on a clean stainless steel table after being found in the trash. I had enough at that point. See ya!
