Unfortunate situation

I have been looking for gainful employment for over a year. I worked for top/well established local government , in the Northern VA region. Unfortunately, due to work related medical situation, I was told to transferred positions. The position was not the type I could handled day to day,but I was told to take it or I would be terminated. Reluctant, I transferred, and thing went from bad to worst quickly. Management started a paper trail and making things up and I was eventually terminated mid last year. However; to make matters worse, .my supervisor, accused me of stealing a chair that I had purchased to be able to work more effectively as part of ergonomic arrangements. She then told all of my friends and colleagues and even potential Employers that I was a thief and I had stolen chairs. When I contacted HR, they started investigating and started terminating colleagues that I had asked for references. I worked there for over 10years. And now I cannot get any references for work and cannot find decent job to support my family. Former supervisor, can have major effects on your ability to find meaningful work but that's not right and shouldn't be happening in local government. Thanks alot ffx

Hired

After trying to get into a hospital setting for years I have finally done it!!! The things that I did that helped me was research the type of person they were looking for. I had 5 plus years experience in long-term care and they were looking for someone with six months experience. I noticed a lot of emphasis on learning, growth, and advancement. I also noticed they seemed to be proud of being a highly skilled sub-acute hospital with excellent beside manner. I possessed all those things as a nursing assistant so I highlighted them on my resume. When I applied they made it clear that they wanted only relevant work history list so that's what was on my resume. I made sure to list one personal reference, one professional reference and one academic reference. All of my references are in the healthcare field. I made sure my resume was more than two pages long and chose a template that would make me stand out. I got a phone interview and a face to face interview the following day. I made sure to tie my answers into the way I reflected myself on my resume. About 4 days later I was called with the news that I had got the job. And now have my start date and put my two weeks notice in at my current job. I hope what I shared can maybe help others with interviews and resumes. Good luck everybody!

Bad management

How do you handle this situation: I come from a medical background (hospital). I left after 7 years due to bad management. Well my previous manager was part of the problem. Now I have been trying to get back on at that hospital but different departments. I've applied to at least 30 positions that I am qualified for. So recently I received a call for a department I know a few people in. They vouched for me. The hiring manager went to my previous manager who told her I dont know what. But it got back to me I will not be getting a call back. My record is clean and shows eligible for rehire. Its something personal with this witch. What can I do?

Management

After being on a job 7 years and being ran off due to poor management how do you explain that in a interview with speaking down on the company? I have been to so many interviews but seem to get choked up when asked why I left. I have tried numerous of different sayings but clearly nothing is working. It's almost a year since I quit and I had no idea it would be this hard getting back in.

11 years without work.

Between my ex boss giving me bad recommendation because I collected unemployment. To no one hiring for a few years after that. And not being Latin enough. I understand and speak Spanish but do not read or write it. But than again, I never had to learn Russian, Portuguese or French to do any of the work that I did. But some reason you have to be fluent and know someone to get work in Miami. I have been out work for the pass 11 years and now that I am 55 years old I doubt I will ever get hired.

When to follow-up with after interview/references being checked

Hello Everyone, so I had a big interview last week. I made it to several phone interviews and I had to do a demo via a webinar. I was told in my first interview, the top two candidates would go one for the demo portion.Out of the two, the top one would be invited to come to the office. I went in last Friday. The last question I asked was, when would they make a decision, the owner said, "when we find the right person and we are checking your references and background next week." Not sure how long all of this takes and I'm not sure if they call all the references, like my top three personal references to. I decided I not to bother my work or personal references to see if they have been contacted yet. I'm was surprised I made it this far! I was sure the person on the first call didn't care for me and I didn't care for him. Just my vibe. I did not know it was the owner of the company! I must say, it was strange interviewing with this person. He asked me what 25 x 25 was and I could not use a pen or calculator. Felt on the spot, in the end, told him I couldn't give him an answer, as I would want to check my work using a pen or calculator. Never had that question asked before! If I blew it over that, than oh well I did my best. As a trainer, I have learned you better know the answer or don't give one at all and you will get back to them. I guess I'm burnt out some with applying for jobs and interviews. I have been very close and yet, this is the closest I have been.

Unhireable

Last year after working for the same employer for 13 years I was bullied into resigning because I was being targeted by an assistant manager who made things up that I supposedly had done wrong. Even though I had witnesses that said these things never happened the manager chose to believe her. I have recently been job seeking and got a job offer which I happily accepted. Went for my physical got all my perjuring done and yesterday received a phone call from Human Resources saying because of some troubling things that came up about my time at my last job that they were withdrawing the offer. I’m a RN with 28 years experience and unfortunately most of the hospitals in the area are owned by the same system. They made it sound like I had given them false information which totally wasn’t true. What should I say when I go to an interview? They didn’t ask why I left, should I tell them? I assumed since it was the same system they would have access to my records. I am at a loss for what to do.
