feeling stuck
I just recently started my job search and without really trying to, my resume did get posted online for every single recruiter to see out there which I found out has its pros and cons. Some are sending emails from out of state from companies that I never heard of which are basically all the recruiters trying to get people to submit their resumes whether they are actually hold an account with these potential clients or not. Currently, I think it's best to continue the job search on my own as well as with very few selective recruiters only because I notice that there might be as many as 6 different recruiters going for the same company with the same position opening at different hourly rates. Also, it seems like over the last several years, I have been catching companies that are in the middle of making major changes, either closing down or consolidating or even moving out of the local areas. I have family where I am currently living but sometimes it feels like the area is starting to become a ghost town. Even though I will be going on an interview tomorrow for this large international company, I sense that they are not making strides since this particular industry seems to have been on a decline over the last decade. The position is only very temporary as in 3 months tops with a possible extension but the last person who was filling in just left this place for a permanent position. I just recovered from an injury and surgery over this past year and this work looks like if it requires a hard hat, steel toed shoes, and other protective gear, it might not be the best choice. The hourly rate for this contract position is not bad, however, I would be paying for the healthcare insurance outright without aid from the recruitment firm. Another place called who is more familiar with who I am because they have partnered with me before in my last job is interested in speaking with me as well about an opportunity that pays decently for a year and has matched my skill set with what I have been able to work with in the past and it would be more entry level advancement of my career without the risks of having to deal with a more toxic environment that has maybe 3 months. I have a feeling and this is not to discriminate that this other place would want someone that for one thing is not petite in size where it might be challenging at times to lift heavier equipment or walk long distances with heavier equipment. I think they even commented before my phone interview that my resume seemed to be more aligned with another position that I am being called about after this other interview takes place. I've heard it is more male dominant in this particular company that is a questionable state. Every thing I see on line has been about mergers, bought outs, and certain places across the country and outside the US closing in the last several years but not everywhere. Once upon a time it used to be really good but the industry itself they said is not doing so good. I am going to keep looking because it sounds like the last woman who left did so very abruptly to find a permanent position elsewhere. Any input on this? This would be my first face to face interview that I have had this year since the layoff this past summer. The last temp assignment in between did not offer a face to face interview and then the job description turned out to be something different so once that assignment ended, I made a note to myself about that previous recruiter and information on other recruiters that I received from others to be careful with.

I desire a position in sales/recruiting
I have been searching for something online or through cold calling. I have hosted many events and recruited some of this areas best vendors to sell their products in a fair trade exchange. I negotiate firmly and ensure the purchase of resources at a premium price. I have a drive for sales as it comes natural to me. I am the owner of Dreams Come True The Pursuit of Human Excellence and formed my organization BWLRZ designed to empower women in network marketing and starting up their own businesses.

Recruiter changed my resume
So I’ve been looking for a Financial Analyst position and I’ve been an Operations Analyst for the pst 9 years. The recruiter that I’m working with changed my title to Financial analyst on the resume that he submitted to a client. He doesn’t seem to think it’s a big deal because he didn’t change the job duties, just the title. To me it’s dishonest and creates an expectation that I have more experience in finance than I actually do. I told him to cancel the interview. I’m so disappointed in him for doing this. Am I overreacting? I feel like if I was an employer, I would be very angry if I found out someone did that!

Working with a Recruiter Really Helped!
One day as I perused hundreds of job openings, finally one caught my eye. It was at my local Target and it was doing something with mobile phones or technology and would involve lots of training and support materials. The next day, I was contacted by a recruiter for the company to see if I was interested and I told her YES that I had just seen the posting the previous day. She told me more about the job and we had several conversations where I shared some of my story with her. I believe that it was that personal connection with her is what led to my job offer. Of course, I interviewed well, but she really spent time talking to me about my resume and my 2 year period of unemployment so that she could present me as the best candidate for her managers. She set up my interview and after talking with the District Manager for 30-40 minutes in which he repeatedly asked if I fully understood the expectations of the job and did I have any remaining questions, I only asked what his timeline was in making a hiring decision. And that's when he OFFERED ME THE JOB ON THE SPOT! I was so excited and happy and RELIEVED to have ANY JOB! (But the job was presented to me as part-time seasonal and to expect 15 hours/weekend up through the holidays with increased hours Thanksgiving week and the 2 weeks prior to Christmas. The DM assured me that more than anything, my sales would dictate my hours and how long they would keep me on. But still, I knew I had to keep looking for another part-time job to work the days I didn't work for Target.) I'll tell what happened next in another post!

to get hired through recruiter
Can anybody tell me the process of screening through recruiter? Do they require references when I reached last step? FYI, I am looking for job opportunity as full time software engineer and my work authorization is W-2. Can anybody suggest me the companies that sponsor for H1B in California. Currently, I am in San Francisco.

3 months of dealing with recruiter after recruiter. Still nothing. Never had this much trouble finding employment. 20 years experience and still waiting game after waiting game. So sick of it

More fun from the HR Desk and how to NOT get the job
I have been noticing a new trend as I move through my recruiting process where candidates "drag their heels" and are not very pro-active. When this happens it is a sign that the person doesn't want the job, isn't interested, or too difficult to work with.
There was a gentleman who canceled his interview claiming car trouble. I re-scheduled him for another day. The interview went well, but his identification was expired. Under Federal law (I-9) forms must completed with valid non-expired ID. The guy promised to get his ID renewed so we moved forward with background/drug screening. It went through very quickly, and I called this guy for a solid week trying to get his updated ID and schedule a start date for work. He would not return calls, refused to let me know what was going on... the position was filled with another candidate. Two weeks later the guy is upset he lost the job with no explanation why he never returned calls/emails/texts.
Another guy had a start date and failed to report to work. He claimed car trouble. I gave him resources to call various community groups that would help him with transportation to the job site so he could make money to fix his car. The guy refused to work 3 days a week to make the money to fix the car. I called him back this morning (a month later) because he reapplied for the same company, different job. He never thought about following up with the ride-share group when they did not send out the info that they said they would email him. This is a guy that just does not want to work and not disqualified.
Another guy, cleared quickly then decided to let us know he had another job and needed to give notice. We gave him standard 2 weeks, I called him the Friday before his start date to confirm and left a message. Then he was a NO SHOW. I called him, he said he said he thought he was starting work on a Saturday ?? Not sure where that came from... but he was apologetic and said he would be at work the next morning. Again, a No Show and refused to return calls. We backfilled the position because the guy was unresponsive. Two weeks after that, he shows up and upset that no one knows who he is because he had been removed from the list. When I spoke with him, he got angry because he didn't follow through.
This happens all the time. When someone calls you, call them same day or early the following morning. Use voice mail, let them know your name - best number to reach you - and when they can reach you "live" where you will be able to speak. Do not wait 2-3 days, it is a sign you are not serious. If the recruiter/HR rep calls you back and you don't pick up ... bad sign. You have to follow through and be proactive.
Ask the next steps and what you need to do next. Don't sit around trying to guess. Every company has different procedures. If you do need to do something (assessments, drug screening, etc.) Try to do it same day and most certainly within 24 hours (unless of course you meet on a Friday and you must wait until Monday). Don't drag your heels authorizing the process and following through. It makes you look unreliable, disinterested in the job, or just have something to hide. In any event... you don't want to leave a bad impression.

Has anyone had this happened.
I called a recruiter back today because they called me yesterday. The position they wanted to interview me for was filled this morning. They wanted me to drive 40 miles away from my home to come speak with them possibly for a position that was not available at this time but might come about. I declined only because I had done this once before with another recruiter months ago and never have called me in for anything else nothing and it has been about six months I have called back and they said not to call and they would call me I am disrupting their day was what one person told me the very last time I called. I don't want to go down the job staffing agency road again because of the treatment I have received has anyone else have had this happened to them or am I alone in this?
