Different Raise % for analyst promotion vs. management promotion
I am in line for a promotion to make the jump from an operational position to the management position. I have been promoted once within the operational position band and wasn't sure if I should be expecting a higher raise now that I am being promoted to a new band of responsibility. I wanted to reach out to the community to see if they have had similar experiences with being promoted to a management level position

Frustrated
I worked as a Secretary at a medium company (I was the only one in the office 27 yrs. ago) and taught myself how to type, use a computer system, accounting program, Microsoft and became a full fledged bookkeeper. The company grew and had two subsidiary companies within the company so I had to take care of five bank accounts, do three different payrolls and do weekly/quarterly/yearly taxes for all. I was there for 27 years and have not had a raise in 17 (or a bonus in 10) and when I asked for one I was told I was a non essential employee in the company (I worked alone for 27 years). So I quit.
Two months later I got a job on the recommendation of a bonding agent and CPA I worked with (who worked with both companies also) as they needed someone in there fast and liked my resume'....lasted six weeks, I wasn't allowed any control of anything so I created work and it freaked her out (I started with the filing system)...she told me she wasn't ready to give up control.
Got a job three weeks ago and first day I was sent to the filing room...It was horrendous (the whole office was stacks of papers everywhere). So I start organizing the filing room along with learning new things along the way, but was always told to go to the filing room and I gave ideas on how this could work better and I created more space and making files (the other filing clerk has been hiding stuff since last year).....I was told Tuesday (by someone who has work there less than I have to just do as you are told). I got the filing done and started on my new work.
I was called after 5 Tuesday when leaving work to be told that I was let go and was told I was not allowed back in the building to get my things or to contact anyone there. I got home and had an email....They said it wasn't going to be a long-term fit. They also mentioned you were focusing a little too much on the filing room when there were additional things they were wanting you to try and do.

Constantly promoted then demoted
My company has a history of financial troubles but pays extremely well. Lately the management have adopted the strategy of only promoting people when they can afford to increase their salary. However, they also demote people when they can no longer maintain that rate of pay. Yes, the workload does change based on the position so I'm always paid "fairly" for the work I'm doing, but I also don't like not knowing if my income will change any given quarter.

Birthday surprise!
Well asking about a raise has already paid off today is my birthday and my manager asked me to see him and he gave me a $2 raise! Don't ever be afraid to ask because it may pay off!

Asking for a raise.....for a coworker
I don't know why but one of my coworkers says they need to make more money but is afraid to ask for personal reasons, so they asked me to ask our boss for them. I don't feel comfortable negotiating for someone else, but he's also my friend and I would feel bad if I didn't help.

Looking far a way to advance and make more money
Just started looking

personal reasons for wanting a raise
Is it okay to ask for a raise because of personal reasons (aka my rent went way up without me knowing)? I work at a nursing home and I don't think I'm going to be making enough to make ends meet but a lot of these older people rely on me for support so i'd feel bad for abandoning them....

Money is tight, or should I ask for a raise or get another job.

Need more money
Should I ask

How can I make more?
Money is tight but I need more. What's better? To ask for a raise or to find a new job?
