I already knew how to drive forklifts , work on engines and had been around the railroad due to my three brothers working there .

How can I get started in the railroad industry. I have no experience. Yet, late in my age...I'm deciding to take on a new trade, in hopes for better pay, long term employment.

I agree with the previous comments. I'm not too familiar with rail jobs but Ramon seems to be on point with her suggestion. I was at a weekly jobseekers networking group I last week and and one of the participants explained how he's a test or 2 away from graduating from his Tracker Trailer training school and he's already being approached by big name distributors like UPS and FedEx. He say's there's lots on job opportunities offering excellent starting pay.

Trucking jobs are taking a bit of a hit right now. Hiring has been slow for the first three months of the year but that's an occupation forecasting tons of growth.
