HI Anthony, I can't speak for railroad, but I can say that the trucking industry is one that is in VERY high need of drivers. I am in contact with lots of job-board owners and most of them are increasingly focused on trucking jobs because the company's are spending more and more on trying to find drivers. I suppose down the road that self-driving google cars might replace drivers but I really don't see that happening at scale for 5-10 years at the earliest- so seems like trucking would be a good spot for a career choice from a supply-demand of labor perspective.

Trucking jobs are taking a bit of a hit right now. Hiring has been slow for the first three months of the year but that's an occupation forecasting tons of growth.

I agree with the previous comments. I'm not too familiar with rail jobs but Ramon seems to be on point with her suggestion. I was at a weekly jobseekers networking group I last week and and one of the participants explained how he's a test or 2 away from graduating from his Tracker Trailer training school and he's already being approached by big name distributors like UPS and FedEx. He say's there's lots on job opportunities offering excellent starting pay.

Welcome shipmate! Fred is right on point, truck drivers will always be needed, so will rail crew. I have worked in both industries and one thing I've learned is that everything you see, use, or purchase has been on a truck or train. I heard it said that if the railroad halts we only have 3 days worth of supplies for any given community. That being said I will speak to railroad jobs since Fred covered the trucking. The pay is excellent and there is plenty of work however it is a very dangerous job (conductor, engineer, brakeman) and I'm told it can be very stressful. As a sailor I'm sure you can handle stress and are used to putting safety first. I'm sure there are other jobs in railroad other than the ones I listed but I only had contact with those I spoke of. I'm sure both have yard masters and other yard personnel as well. Off topic... Please feel free to join the military group we need more active participants. Ooh Rah!
