Feeling used
I work at a hotel for 4 months no previous experience. But I did learn the job very quickly. I was told from the manager that I would get a supervisor housekeeper position because of the good work I was doin. Anyway while I was off two other housekeeper supervisor went to manager and ask about other employee gettin the position so she gave it to them. They wasnt there not even a good two months. Plus other two supervisor always tried to find something wrong with my work. So I was told by manager that I didnt get job cause I left iron and iron board in a clean room which I didn't it was just crazy.

What are good ways to advance in the retail Community?

Harrassment and def-
I’m employed but have old employers bad mouthing me either trying to get me terminated and or applying for a have a higher paying job. I’ve been constantly being investigated by private investigators. People up the street from my residence watching following me posted at my routes.

My work ethic
I'm a very hard worker, I have always given my all at every company that I have been employed with. I take every job that I have been given and opportunity to be employed with my all, unfortunately, none of those companies kept their word. They would acknowledge the fact at every company I've been employed through that I was the hardest worker they had, but they would never keep their word to me as I did to them. I was promised raises that I never received, I would go above and beyond my job duties to prove that I wanted to be a part of that company, and like I said some not all would acknowledge how hard of a worker I was. I just want to find a job / career that my work is acknowledged and appreciated, not only through verbal expression but by getting raises and advancement opportunities.. I've put in so much hard work at so many different companies trying to get advancement opportunities and move up in the company but was never given the opportunity that I deserved. I'm not saying that I think I deserve the world, I want to advance like everyone else through hard work and dedication. I thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope that I am given an opportunity of employment with a company that is upstanding. Thank you for your consideration have a blessed day Sincerely Matthew Bishop

Working towards management at papa johns
So recently I was told that I'm being looked at as a new manager. Now this all sounds great considering I'm a driver right now making minimum wage which is like $8.50 an hour. Plus tips which on a normal day is around $45-50. Now as a manager I'd be making $12 an hour working a potential 40 hours a week. Right now I have just under 35 and last week I worked 52 hours. My income monthly is around $1600 but I dont want to stay a driver for long cause its putting wear and tear on my car, plus I'm filling up on gas twice a week. Which is about $25 - 50 depending on how much I drive. As a manager I'd be losing a bit of income but I'd be gaining health insurance. Should I continue to go for management or should I stay as a driver?

Still pissed
I'm 56 with a Masters degree in Organizational Leadership. I was recently passed over for a supervisor position at my current place of employment of over 2 yrs. I had 4 interviews. 1 with HR; 2 with my manager and 1 with the RVP. The RVP decided I didn't have enough experience and wanted some who was relocatable. In other words, someone younger and single. Smells like ageism and dare I say racism. There is no diversity in our local office in the management ranks. All white males. Total of 7 since I've been there. The last one was hired from the outside instead of promoting from within. So disappointed and still there. No luck finding another suitable job. Received too many dear john letters/email/ phone calls which start off "we regret to inform you......blah, blah, blah. Which is a whole other post for another time.

Passed over on a promotion
I have been in retail for over 15 years and my current company for nearly two years. I work in our ladies departments (10) as a sales associate. Recently the Team Lead was promoted to Ladies Departments Manager. I expressed my interest in being appointed the new Team Lead and both the store manager and ladies departments managers talked to me like I was going to be promoted. I was told I’d have 40 hours each week, a scheduled day off and to delegate projects to others. I was not officially given the job. Yesterday I was informed and met a new hire, the Team Lead. After many previous conversations with the managers, I can’t help but feel cheated by not getting the promotion. I am mature, outgoing, know our store completely and have great repeat customers that I’ve cultivated for the past two years. I am always willing to come in early, stay late and help in other departments. I feel like looking for another job, where I can grow and be promoted within the company. The new hire is very young and was applying for a cashier job. I am certain that my qualifications are superior and I’m frustrated that someone outside the company was chosen over me. Any ideas or suggestions?

Nepotism
I have been wanting to make this post for quite sometime now. My colleagues as well as some friends face this issue and it seems it's a growing trend. I'm certain this is a subject of concern especially for those who either have been passed over for promotions or even just a job opportunity in general. It seems there are cries for equality and jobs state they are being fair when clearly they are not. We have people suffering jobless and stripped of opportunities which they fully qualify for, just to have the opportunity given to a friend or family member who clearly is not qualified for the job. Where is that ethical in any sense? I can understand giving a qualified friend a job, which either they have experience, highly skilled or educated; but not to someone who clearly doesnt have any KSAs that comply to the position.
I recall a position I was contacted for and the hiring manager reached out to me stating, he was looking for the best team he could invest in. I was already approved to be joining the new team of hires for a special project, but in less than a week prior to the start date, was told the entire team was replaced. Interesting enough, a team of professionals and highly qualified candidates were replaced by the hiring managers daughter, the VP step son, and a few more family ties. Long story short the project never proceeded past the developmental phase because the new teams priorities were not on the initial assignment, just focused on coming in and getting paid.
Have you ever faced nepotism in your career? If so, how did or do you handle your feelings towards these situations?
