Some companies really suck!
I had an initial interview where they have 10 people sitting waiting to interview. I thought it might be a group thing, but no. We were all called in one at a time. Was this an intimidation tactic? Well, I got a second interview. Then I was called to come in to shadow. I went in and every time I got up to follow she asked what I was doing... I thought I was shadowing... not now I was told. After 4 times I didn't get up. Then I was asked why I didn't get up. All we did for 4 hours was look for nerf basketballs that the owner of the company wanted to send out as a gift. I didn't talk to anyone, do anything but sit... What I did do was show his current assistant how to find them... The owner treated for lunch at his restaurant. The only time I saw him while I was there was to say thank you for lunch. Then I was told, thanks for coming in, we will call you to come another day. Then I get an email, we found someone more suited for the position. I went off! I sent an email to the company saying how my time was just as valuable as theirs and how dare they treat people this way. They did not even give me the opportunity to show what I could do. I guess this is unprofessional, but I didn't feel they were professional either!

New Shoes!!
I’ve recently gotten a job in an office setting, and I’m worried that I don’t have the clothes to look professional. I know WHAT to wear (no leggings!). But in order to GET professional clothes I NEED money - so how can I dress to impress before getting my first paycheck (which might be about three weeks away…) Help! I’m not sure what to do, especially about shoes since they can be more expensive if you want them to look good… any tips on how to bend the dress code in an office setting?? What’s the minimum requirement for looking professional?

mean texts
I know managers sometimes use texting for communicating with employees like sending out a schedule but do you think it is right for them to text about other things? Like my manager will make comments when he sends the schedule to me like “don’t oversleep. I am not coming to wake you up.” Or he’ll send a text about not coming into work hungover! Not to everyone, just me. I’ve never been late and I’ve NEVER gone to work hungover…
How am I supposed to deal with this?

dress code
do I need a unaform

Where’s the line?
My coworkers make really crude jokes pretty frequently, and sometimes I’m the punchline. I don’t think I would call it sexual harassment quite yet, but I’m wondering: how do you draw that line? At what point do jokes become harassment?

Disqualified/Over Qualified!
I'm under the impression that after the multiple assessment test and phone interviews that most jobs are requiring once you get the Initial interview that the ppl conducting are madly intimidated if your looking apart from them POLISHED I've gotten the same emails we regret to tell you most the times everyone think I'm the executive from Corp. I tell them I came for an interview they all were in awe so Basic as can be no need walking in looking like a total asset and delivering exceptionally you won't get the job.

Spelling/grammar/web search/social media PAY ATTENTION
Watching the spelling catfights on this board are the best entertainment since the Jerry Springer show. In all seriousness there seem to be two camps of people on the issue; those who think it is important because it shows attention to detail, discipline and education. Then there are those who think it's not important as it has nothing to do with their job or resume and application. Wrong. What a lot of people don't seem to know is that prospective employers will do a web search on you and they will check ALL SOCIAL MEDIA. Some of the raw things people on this board have written about their current or former employer, detailed by name that they then attach their name to by using their account would make me want to go into witness protection. Those people who have trash talked their former employer (by name even) yelled about suing (again, everyone's name is involved) or the 'colorful ' language used to describe former companies, managers and co-workers might want to see if Jobcase will scrub these posts. I've seen people who have applied to companies from through this site then say nasty things about how xyz company won't call them fast enough (usually discrimination of some kind is added) then they wonder why they're not getting the job or interview. Do people ever have a little voice inside their head saying 'posting this might be a bad idea?!

Electrician
After working for Clearwater paper for over 10 years two days before Christmas I was fired for not having my shirt button up they call me at home and had me come in and the day before and I asked hr should I bring my truck and get my tools and she said no I was on paid suspension then she called me to come in on the 22nd for a meeting it takes me an hour to drive there after the meeting as I was almost home I got another call from her saying I was terminated and when I asked about my personal belongings they told me they were going to cut my personal lock off my personal locker and ship me my things without my permission I say bullshit, in my 20years of being an electrician never have I been treated like this by an employer

Jobs
I see alot of people complaining of discrimination.. and that they can't find jobs... alot of the reason could be how you carry yourself.. when you go into an interview speak professionally (use real words).. dress for success.. another thing.. when you put applications out.. they check ALL YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA... all these play a part in finding a job..
