20 years experience and no one will give me a chance!

I'm so frustrated. I have over 20 years experience in dialysis and it seems as though most companies want someone fresh out of high school instead of someone with maturity and knowledge. How do I get through to hiring managers to give me an opportunity?

Sometimes we shoot to low. There for over qualified. Scares some employers.Apply out of your comfort zone.. Above your ability if you will. Allow the employer to fit you in...

REBUTTALS...FOR A DUMB STATEMENT

There more I think about this, the more my mind comes up with!

INTERVIEWER'S STATEMENT: YOU ARE OVER QUALIFED...the dumbest statement ever made!

RESPONSE: Overqualified as opposed to Underqualified...or are you trying to say you are looking for someone who is Barely qualified. So is that the same as saying that the barely qualified might just have enough skill set to achieve the part of the position that they are already knowledgeable of and possibly not capable of extending their thinking to catch onto the elements of the position they are not familiar with?

INTERVIEWER'S STATEMENT: Well with the pay being offered for the position we just don't think you will stay with us long in lieu of your qualifications.

RESPONSE: Well being that I was aware of the salary being offered prior to the interview, wouldn't you think that would be a decision best left up to me to decide if I've already obviously decided it was acceptable by coming to the interview?

To take it to the next phase of thinking as far as how long they stay; is that not a chance you take with the underqualified or barely qualified as well. With all due respect once the under or barely qualified; assuming this does occur, mastering the position that is; is it not possible for either of one of those two individuals to find a better opportunity. Even more so, one in which they originally would have preferred before they knew everything the job entailed. Or even worse terminated because they were unable to master the position. Wouldn't you say in your expertise that does happen?

I am just saying in the bigger picture how dumb that statement really is...

A GOOD RESPONSE TO AN INTERVIEWER'S STUPID REMARK!

I have been in the workforce for over six decades and the one response that I have heard when appearing before an interview and at the conclusion which makes no sense whatsoever, and is one of the most ignorant statements I've ever heard:

INTERVIEW'S REMARK: "Unfortunately, with all things considered I find that you are overqualified for the position".

RESPONSE: "From what you are saying; this company doesn't need or wants experts for the position but only one that would possibly be considered underqualified. With that being said then you have a good point this company can't afford to have someone like myself aboard, the job might be considered to well done!

The assessment then is to only know my talents are too far above this company, and I thank you for your honesty and informing me of such. Hence, it is a safe assumption that upper management the company overall has put a limit on the amount of success it hopes to achieve.

With me knowing the type of person I truly am and that is one of which that always strive to be the best and whatever I undertake in life, and bring to the table all developed skills, then all I can say is you are right for I only desire to work for companies that expect the best individuals they can recruit with the most to bring to the company.

Obviously, this is not one of such companies, just to avoid anyone else taking up your time unnecessarily who bare attributes of likeness to myself; I will make sure to post my review of the company online in accordance to the information you just gave.

Now, don't expect an educated reply for they did not see this coming, however, do know you left him/her with a lasting impression of what kind of person you are and the extent to the brilliance of your whit. You actually, outthought the person and caught someone with their pants down.

Gibber

I was told just recently that I was overqualified for the position I applied for and wasn't hired, called back, nothing. I've called them and it's like they are avoiding me. Fuck I just want to work!

How can I overcome the comment of "You are going to get bored"

I don't know what to do. I have gotten the interviews and then the next steps and then, Sorry we are going to pass. Either it is: the scope has changed and it is now a junior role or you'll get bored, or you aren't a fit, Well, how come I just spent the last 3 days jumping through hoops and changing my schedule to make the 5 different interviews. Can someone help me understand?

Are you

Overqualified , has a few meanings.. Your asking for more money then the employer is willing to pay.. A sweet way of an employer saying they don’t want to hire you...because Your not a good fit for the job, the employer knows as soon as something that fits your qualifications, or better pay comes along your gone.. Remember a collage education my get you in the door. But means little without practical knolage and experience in the field your trying to enter.

Over but still under qualified

I have worked over 27 years as an engineer in the aerospace defense industry.. The final years as cybersecurity engineer. Terminated less than 1 year after having a brain stroke at work. That was 2014. Living off retirement irascible but want to get back out into the workplace but most job state am over qualified and othera under qualified. Very frustrating. At age 55 just looking for part time work.

Experienced Human Service Worker

I have over 10 years of experience working for local and state government. Relocating to Wilmington, NC and cannot seem to get a job offer. I have only had ONE county call me for an interview, I have applied to four counties and these are positions I am over-qualified for. I have not designated a pay range that is over what is being offered, and I am willing to start on the front line even though I am a supervisor-level employee. I felt that if the one county that I interviewed with was willing to offer my an interview from out of state, they would be willing to offer a position. I have applied for at least seven positions in their Economic Services division and have been looked over for five of them (I have all qualifications they are asking and the interview went well). Are companies really that scared to hire someone who was willing to show up at the interview, but still has not relocated yet?
