Over qualified, discrimination, or too much demand?

After one year and few months, here I am actively looking for a job. I really do not know what is happening in a country with tons of opportunities, probably I am doing something wrong.

Here is my story; I have a bachelor degree in economics with international experience and two masters degree. I came to this country escaping from the political, economic and insecurity chaos that prevails in Venezuela. After seven years of working in the financial industry, I decided that it was time for a fresh start, since the devaluation of the currency was literally eating my financial stability. My naïve plan was to apply for an advance degree program in a good university with the hope to be hire. I was completely wrong.

Several months have passed since I finished the program, and the answer is always the same. "You were not selected for the position, thank you for having the time to apply"

My question is:

Is anybody experiencing the same situation? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the average (mean) duration for an unemployed person to find a job is approx. 23.2 weeks

Is anybody experiencing any kind of discrimination, race, immigration status (green card holder), or age?

Finally, Should I delete my higher degrees from my resume?

Any advice will be highly appreciated

Lost and frustrated

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking here for a while but this is the first time I've posted. I lost my job a little over a month ago and it's been hard trying to find a new one. I didn't think with my experience it would take this long to be hired. I've applied for 36 jobs, had three interviews I thought was promising but no follow-ups, and 5 rejection emails. My brother suggested that even though I have over 12 years of customer service experience, because of my 2 associates degrees, employers might be looking at me as "overqualified" for the jobs I'm seeking. WTF!! Do employers not realize that quote/unquote "overqualified" workers need to eat too? Until I find another job, I'm faced with the dubious task of asking my father for money for my bills, who I hate putting this burden on. I can't help but feel like I'm disappointing him and it hurts. Long story short, I guess I'm just praying for a miracle.

Confusing

I see a lot of people around me both fresh graduates and extremely experienced personnel. Both have same problem they can't get job. When it comes to experienced personnel companies often say you are over experienced and when it comes to fresh graduate they say you have no experience. So what I actually want to know is what these companies really want? Why both group of people meet the same faith.

Over experienced

Over experienced is quite a word which I hear a lot in industry. A man having experience more than 30 year is like a fresh graduate no company is ready to hire him as they think he is overpriced even though he is ready to wrk at low wage. It's like a crime which he has done unintentionally. Question is why companies hesitates to hiresuch people as these people can make a significant contribution?

Hopeful

I ran into someone yesterday, who told me that Staffing Companies were the way to go. I said I would look into it and I spoke with someone today in regards to what I have been dealing with, she immediatly looked at my resume and told me I was overqualified and I said I would do anything at this point. She worked with me over the phone and I am to get back with her tomorrow. Just a thought here. Try the Staffing Agency's as well. They might prove to be better than some of the Job boards.

7 months and counting

I was layed off from my previous employer in February 2018. I have been actively looking for employment since than. I have had many interviews and sometimes I have even been asked to come back for a second Interview. Yet I have not been able to land a job. Many times I have been advised that I am overqualified. I have done everything that I know that I am supposed to do (sending Thank you cards/emails, called back to follow up about position) Feeling very discouraged

"Over Qualified"

I have been in nursing management positions for 9 years. I am not closed to management positions I simply do not want to be the only person on call who ever answers the phone.....that's another issue entirely......I have applied for non-management positions but am repeatedly told that I am over qualified. The major difference in me being in a management position and others (some not all) being in management is that I continue to work the floor either to fill in or just helping out. I have learned by the expression of the staff that this is a unique quality. My question is how do I land a non-management position if I am "over qualified"......

Then what is it?

Sure ageism is present and of illegal but hard to prove. Yet, it is not the only thing that prevents others from getting a job period. Is it salary desire? Racism? Gender bias? Computer vs. Human? Degree status? Overqualified? Budget costs? Laziness? Are they complete assholes overwhelmed by too many applicants? Not enough experience? Benefits? Are they too picky? Or is it your own fault for getting in your own way? Educate me with your own opinions and lessons. Law of Attraction or not, its tough out there! Love you all! God bless and hood luck!
