What made me stay at #Las Vegas Paving was

I didn't. This is supposed to be a union position, but unless you're buddy buddy with someone, or a methhead or dealer, you get the work no one else wants. Been like that for a long time.

My favorite part about working at #Las Vegas Clark County Public Library was

...that within obvious directives and guidelines set by my Supervisor/Manager, I had the flexibility to structure the lesson plans (ie. the books and computer programs used to tutor/teach) to what was considered as being acceptable, informative, and worth the time and effort. My students were Cuban refugees who practically spoke no English so some of the tutoring of ESL had to be translated/interpreted into Spanish so that at least they could understand certain things. My adult female student originated from Guatemala and she had mid-level English speaking and reading ability. I was told to "just let her read", so we did just that. She liked children's books and food and fashion magazines which I borrowed for her from from the library. After 6 weeks, she was tested for any signs of improvement and she scored super-high, elevating her status not by just level, but by two! A sign that she was learning very rapidly. This made us all feel great.
