My advice to people interested in working at #Johnson&Johnson as a #RegionalManagingDirector ...

Read the J&J CREDO. Understand it well. J&J takes adherence to it very seriously. All J&J companies are evaluated on a set of criteria that determines how well local management have complied with the values outlined in the CREDO. Local employees perform an evaluation also of their local management on how well they have managed according to the CREDO.

The biggest mistake I made as a #RegionalManagingDirector at #Johnson&Johnson ...

Replacing our company sales force in Dominican Republic with a local distributor.

A #stressful #Johnson&Johnson day

Promising corporate management we would achieve our year-end forecast and realizing, with a few weeks left in December, that we would fall short of our commitment.

Drama at #Johnson&Johnson

We exceeded the sales forecast for the launch of Splenda in Puerto Rico and ran out of stock. Consequently, we were unable to fill Walmart's follow-up order and they were thoroughly pissed. They insisted that we compensate them for the lost sales. Instead we offered them a program of "specials" which eased the problem. It all ended well.

What I loved working at #Johnson&Johnson

Primarily, I was motivated by the decentralized system of operating by J&J. J&J comprises over 200 companies, all operating in a decentralized way. Local management is totally responsible for operations and P&L commitments. Employees feel empowered and are motivated by a sense of ownership. It is not the top to bottom kind of management usually seen at major corporations.
