I think I F*cked up!!

I received a job offer today but the salary is way under what I was I was expecting. I had been interviewing on and off with this company over the last 3 months and they only told me the salary would be based on my experience. The offer came in way below what I was expecting. I’m terrible at handling conflict and don’t have any experience negotiating salaries. In the past, I always took whatever companies would offer me but times have changed. I’m a single mom now with a lot more financial responsibilities and children depending on me. This is the first job offer I’ve had after months of endless unsuccessful job searching so I nervously accepted the job but now I’m reconsidering that decision. How should I approach this one thing without losing everything?

Turning down a job offer tactully?

I interviewed for a digital printing company over the phone and then was caleed in for an interview the same week. All went well, but when I got there, I found it to be about an hour away, one way, and without traffic, with traffic, it will easily become an hour and half drive! Then I find that they only have first and second shift, with first being 6am-2pm and second from 2-11. I am clear on my resume that 3rd is my preference, not just that, but during their busy times, they work 4am-4pm or 6pm-2am for second. I have kids and I am divorced with no help from my ex,but at the same time, I need a job. I metwith the plant manager that day and he informed me that everyone usually work 70+ hours a week when they are busy.

Now I don`t mind hard work, but again, I have a life and kids home, plus an over an hour commute from home. I plan to move closer whenever I can find a rental that i affordable, but in the mean time, I will be commuting, and even then I will still have a 30 minute drive, one way.

My question is this, the hr lady wanted me to come back this afternoon to meet with the company`s regional manager. It sounds good and like they are really considering me, and I told them I would come. I agreed because I was getting no other call backs. Now another company has called and they have night shift and I get a better feel off this job. The hr lady for the other company seems sweet and like a nice person, but this new company offers better hours. They are in the same area, unfortunately.

But my question is this, how do I handle interviewing with the first job with the undesirable hours, should they offer me a job today? My interview for the other company is tomorrow. I REALLY want the job from the company im interviewing with tomorrow, but right now I haven`t received an offer from either.

Both sound promising, but should the today interview land me a job offer, how can I handle it while stalling and waiting to see what the other says tomorrow?

Two Part Time Job Offers

I have been looking for work for awhile now and tend to receive requests for interviews, then I interview and I do not hear any yeses back. But now, I finally have a job offer, then I receive a second one a few days later. They are both part-time job offers, but don't play well with each other. One is full time during the tax season and then about 8 or 16 hours during the off season. The other is 12 hours year round.

What would you all think of possibly asking the tax office, if I could work there three days a week and work the other job two days a week during the tax season? I know they will probably say no, but does asking hurt me in anyway? What complicates this for me, is I only have a verbal offer from the tax office, with a start date where the papers will be waiting for me. Hard to say no to an offer, when I don't have any paperwork for the other offer.

I really want the tax office job, and am afraid I might jeopardize that by even asking about the possibility of trying to make both jobs work together. I only want to make them both work together, as I like them both and during the tax off season 8 or 16 hours is a tad light to me. And, well I had a previous bad experience at a new position that only lasted 7 weeks and I am afraid the tax office, which would stretch me some, might get frustrated with me and let me go.

Haven't Found that "Work From Home" Posistion Yet

I have been looking for a legit "Work From Home Gig" for over a month and a half. Fortunately I have received lucrative job offers, some offering flat rate salaries others competitive pay, company car, cell phone, 401k, Dental..... all the bell and whistles included- just to name a few from various companies from which I have applied. Needless to say any of those companies would have been perfect, but they were not WORK FROM HOME! D0-Not-Get-Me-Wrong I am ever so grateful that these companies chose me to be apart of their organization. Believe Me I have been very tempted to take a few of them up on their offer, but I know at this time in my life I would be unable to fulfill their requirements to come to their physical office and work. I will Keep Trying, Peace Everyone.

Advice

Has anyone ever started a job not even 3 weeks and was later offered a better paying one and if so what did you decide to do?

Still waiting

I applied back in Nov and got an interview in Dec and was told she would be calling me after talking to district . Well I finally got a call on the 30th but she asked me to come in for an interview. When I called her back she changed the conversation from an interview to start working this week but she still is waiting on district to contact her and she would call me Saturday to start this week. Never got the call Saturday and its now Monday and still no call. I have never seen a business do this and I'm getting discouraged and feel like I'm getting the run a round.

Offer - With Relocation- Changes Quite a Bit....What Would you Do?

I have a company who has an offer with relocation. Now they say they will pay for the moving company and 7-10 days in a nice hotel. I told them I was not interested in them paying a moving company, and that I prefer a flat rate of $5,000 relocation expenses, which assists 1st and last months rent. (which is nothing, for Southern California rent =$1,500 per month).
Furthermore their contract indicates anything I produce while not on their company time they have irrevocable rights to, even when I am off the clock, with no royalties, plus they have irrevocable power of attorney. They claim to pay you 5% on your inventions but they make hundreds of thousands if not millions on your ideas, and then all they have to do is fire you and you don't get paid. For an out of state relocation....paying for hotel does not classify as relocation. What is your insight?

Should I not have negotiated?

I interviewed three times at company that I wanted to work for....during two of the interviews, they asked me my salary requirement and I told them. They agreed, acted like it was OK and never mentioned the company's maximum salary allotted for the position. The salary I gave was $10K less than my previous permanent position. But when I received the offer letter, it was $5K less than what was agreed at the interview. So I asked about it (maybe it was an error or did the salary change)....I was told that was the budget for the position. I tried to negotiate and mentioned that nothing was said to me at the interviews that my given salary was out of the range. I tried to negotiate $2K - $3K less instead....but after my suggestion, I received an email that the offer was being rescinded. And an apology for the confusion but they decided to go in another direction. Later I sent an email apologizing if I was too forward with my negotiating skills and explained that I was still interested in the position. I have never negotiated for any of my previous positions....but I have been told that you never accept the first offer - you negotiate. And especially since the salary being offered was $5K less than agreed at interviews....I did not want to just accept what was placed on the table. I guess negotiating is not a good idea in this job climate.....but I didn't want to take a $15K paycut. Wrong move....

Accepted a job but my dream job called.

I am looking for an opinion on what I should do. I started a job selling chemicals and only been there a few weeks, but a dream job called me. It is to work with the courts and having just graduated with a degree in Social Work and being 38 I have to look for my carer not a job. What do you think I should do on telling my recent job about the new job. I hate doing this especially since the new job would pay me about 10k more a year but the courts give me a pension after working there only 8 years.
