I just learned a new a new phrase
I was offered a job recently. Hooray for me, right? Well, if you look up salaries in my field within my region, you'll see that the bottom of the pay scale is around $70k to $75k per year, the upper part of the pay scale is around $105k to $110k.
This guy -- with a straight face -- offered me $38,000. When he saw my jaw drop, he said he had "some wiggle room" and raised it to $41,000. I reminded him I have a master's degree, over a decade of experience in my field, that my last job in this very same field paid $87,000 and that I was earning more than $38,000 in the 1990's. His answer was, "We're a fiscally conservative company."
So THAT must be the politically correct way to say, "We're ridiculously stingy and unrealistic in our hiring practices. We want lobster and champagne for the same price as fish sticks and a Sprite." I was wondering how one politely tells his employer they are CHEAP AS HELL and now I know. They aren't cheap, they're "fiscally conservative." Ahhh, the American love of jargon, what with their "fiscally conservative" nonsense. Well I like jargon too -- so I told them to SHOVE IT. I went through two phone screens and four face-to-face interviews over nearly a month for THAT insulting offer?!?! I was quite irritated...to say the least.
I'm looking for work and am open to accepting a lower rate of salary under the right circumstances. HOWEVER a FIFTY-SIX PERCENT SALARY REDUCTION is a LOT more than just a lower rate of salary. That's not going to work. Not at ALL! What the hell is WRONG with these people?

When will i know if i got the job
How do I know if I got the job. I already took my drug and background check

Hired
Having worked steadily for 40 years at 3 Engineering companies i was laid off in March.Boy has the job search process changed. Now that i'm collecting SSI i can be more selective.I applied for jobs in my field and also PT jobs at Costco,Home Depot and others.I received instant responses from the Engineering co's and interviews but the PT jobs took weeks just to get an acknowledgement that i applied there. A month after applying to Home Depot i had an interview was hired on the spot and 3 weeks later my drug test and background check was approved and i start this week. This entire process is unbelievable and i'm very happy and fortunate. All of you out there hang in there most co's will get back to you don't give up.

Formal Job Offer is taking too long.
I verbally was offered a job last Tuesday. Thursday, they asked for references which I provided immediately after the request. Yet still they have not called them? It is a small private business with about 6 employees. What could be taking so long? Should I reach out? I am impatient, I know. :(

Outside My Comfort Zone
I have been looking to get hired in the medical field non stop for the past year. Finally, I decided to volunteer at one of the major hospitals as a Transport Escort. I love it and l learn so much in one day. Another volunteer told me, the person in charge of this department tends to hire volunteers on a frequent basis. How can I show that I willing and committed? Should ask for a meeting?

question
How will I know if I got the job or not?

In a quandary....
Need some advice...I am waiting to hear from a job interview about a position but was offered another position for a different organization. The oneI am waiting to hear from us full time and the offered one is part time. I mentioned to the pt company that I was waiting to hear from another interview. How long do you think k I should wait to give my final decision? I don't want to lose the one job of the other doesn't work out....

Quitting during an awkward time
Right now I'm an admin assistant at a part time office job that I've been trying to leave for the past several months. On Friday one of the salesmen retired, on Tuesday I interviewed for a job that I think went well, and when I come in on Wednesday I find out the head of our website department put in his two weeks and they're offering me full-time so i can take on some of his tasks. I'm supposed to hear back from my interview tomorrow one way or the other, but now I have no idea how to make a smooth exit. I've only even quit one job before but not in a situation like this--the company is 14 people and if I quit they'll be loosing 3 in a very short span of time.

regarding my job interview
hello... everyone... I sent in my background check I had a domestic violence from like past 7 years ago but they still want it on there... other than that I had the job offer just waiting on the background check to come back... my buddy worked at the distribution center and told me it don't take that long... keeping my fingers crossed... hoping for the best for everyone on here

Is there ever any circumstance where you don't need to give a 2 week notice to an employer, or it won't matter if you do or don't?
In my case, I finally found a job after a long drought of being unemployed. I was glad to get the job and tried my hardest to be a productive team member; however, I'm not catching on to the job as fast as I would like and they would like, and I feel that it is just a matter of time before I am terminated.
The company is an at will company, and I have only been there for a little less than 2 weeks, about 10 days exact. The position I originally applied for was filled prior to my offer of employment, so I can't ask to be placed somewhere else. I feel as though the hr lady was trying to help me initially and give me a chance, because the job she offered me paid a significant amount more than the original job I applied for.
The new job has me operating a machine I don't have a lot of experience on, nor do have a recent experience. I feel as though with time, I can learn the job, but they are only giving me 3 weeks or 4 weeks tops to learn it.
Just recently an incident happened and me and the hr lady had a small conflict. At this point, it has been resolved, but now she is cold towards me and I am sure she is trying to push me out the door as quick as she can. (I posted about this in another conversation) She has already placed an ad on a lot of jobsites that they have an opening in the position and shift I was working.
I know for a fact that there were no more positions, and unless there was someone that left, or another position was created, I was told that I filled the last position that was available and no more positions were open.
So my question is this, since the hr lady seems to be the problem, do I need to try in talk to her, or just chalk this job to a loss, take a possible pay cut and just find something temp to hire or direct hire through a temp service and start there soon as I can.
Others have said I need to leave a 2 week notice, but at this point, it is sort of a hostile environment. I feel her disdain for me and I feel like I am not wanted there. I am stressed out enough dealing with being a single mom of 5 and now the added stress of this job and trying to run a machine I have no clue on how to run is too much!
Each day brings a new challenge, now after all this time of working, she called me to the office to say that my references didn't check out? I called all the numbers, and all seemed to be working when I called them. She is reaching for a way to sabotage my job.
I am supposed to return to work Monday, but at this point, I don't even want to. what do I need to do?
