82 Days til the People-First Decade!

We have 82 days left in this decade. What are you doing to get ready to have success in the new Roaring 20's? How do you define that success?

Pretty soon the headlines will all be covered with 'new decade' pronouncements. Jobcase has a lot going on here in Boston to get ready for this (think worker advocacy moving towards activism). I like these moments because its always helpful to pause from the daily grind and think in longer timeframes and reset courses for larger impact. We are doing that here at Jobcase. I think you'll love what we come up with - punchline being more investment into the site for tools and community building to help everyone navigate to more success in the next decade than the last, AND more advocacy and activism to leverage the scale of Jobcase and the spirit and size of the Jobcase network to have lasting positive impact for workers more generally. Its great that shareholders are closing a decade where they will be up more than 200% (s&p 500 div reinvested since jan 2010) but we need to see more movement in median household incomes, workers wages, in upward mobility for workers, in education access to pace with technology, etc. Those are the types of things we will be fighting for.

We think it will be important that this decade be People-first. To make sure that the pace of technological advances are geared towards helping, not displacing, people. That will take explicit focus. We are on it! But how bout you? What will this new decade be for you? 82 days til the starting-gun goes off? Are you getting ready for it? One thing you can do is to simply pause and visualize what success looks like to you in December 2029. Knowing where you are going helps figure out how to get there.

Well. I'll write more on this here at JObcase later. And it will be tighter and better thought out. But I thought I'd share these initial thoughts as we all can benefit from pausing, visualizing and acting for success as we define it. I can't wait to hear what this might mean to you. And then together - Lets make it our best decade yet!

My apologies to the Jobcase community

Between certain medical issues and working a still fairly new job, along with a new part time job, time has been exceptionally limited. I believe that it has been over a year since my last contact with the community, not a good thing and I do apologize for my thoughtlessness. After all, some of the best guidance and support I received when I was unemployed was from this very community! Anyways enough with the excuses, we have work to do, I'm back and after prioritizing what is really important to me, I'm ready and able to give back to this very special community!! God Bless and thank you all.

Positive Vibes Only

Is it me, or is this forum littered with “the glass is half empty” type people?

If you haven’t found a job YET, it’s not hopeless. Find work in unconventional places. Check your church, sign up for a delivery service (door dash, etc), offer a service to the public you’re good at.

If you don’t make enough money, learn a new skill that will make you more marketable. Google and YouTube is filled with ways to make more money and skills to learn that will get you paid.

If you are interviewing and not getting hired, ask for feedback. Look up job services (free) that does mock interviews and interview prep help. Go online and look up practice interview questions. PREP PREP PREP!

All I’m trying to say is, if your box of tricks are not working. Look outside of the box. Always keep a positive and encounter attitude no matter your struggle. Your attitude will radiate through your words and disposition. And the worst thing you can do is job search with negative vibes. Also, speak out only positive affirmations. Instead of saying I can’t find work, say I haven’t found my job YET. There’s some science behind phrasing your statements in a way that your brain feels it has to keep trying.

Good luck y’all and happy hunting.

This week we celebrate YOU, truckers!

Did you know that this week is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week? You may be one of the 3.5 million truckers working all across the US to deliver goods to businesses and customers that need them. And to you we want to say a big THANK YOU for all that you do.

We recognize that trucking ISN’T easy for a lot of drivers since their profession takes them away from family and friends for extended periods of time, but we feel their impact on our lives in the many goods and products we enjoy daily. So if you meet a trucker this week (or any week) be sure to thank them for the very important work they do!
