Just saw this article… and I don’t really know how to feel. I’m in a position of trying to get experience so I can build a career, but I also need to pay for life. I’m a single mom and being “paid in experience” doesn’t pay the bills. By accepting a job with that “compensation” you are basically already well off and don’t really need the money. Plus, doesn’t her company make enough money to pay people? Would you agree to being paid in experience? I'm Alexis Barker, I'm currently unemployed. Just so you get to know me better, I graduated highschool this past May and currently are enrolled in New York Institution of Art and Design. I would enjoy working with an Interior Designer, so I could shadow and intern. I graduated with my Microsoft Office Specialist Expert certificate. In 2014-2015 I worked as a filing clerk at my county's Court House, doing paperwork after school, so I have some experience doing paperwork with the Misdemeanor, Traffic, and Felony departments. I also have a widespread art and music background. I've sold a wood burned plaques for people. And have volunteered at my local church as a guitartist/drummer in the band for 7 years.

I need to start saving up for college now to have a realistic shot at attending any school without drowning in student loans. I’m trying to find a retail job but all the stores have a 18 year old minimum age requirement to apply. I also looked into internships but found the applications highly competitive and most don’t pay. Does anyone know of places that will hire me?

How can I find a Summer job this late? I’m a Chemical Engineering student entering my senior year next fall. I know I’m starting my summer job search late this year but I’m still looking to land an internship in my field. I applied for 3 opportunities with engineering companies so far but no one has responded to my application. At this point I’ll be willing to take on any job as long as I can get full time hours over the summer. I also applied to about 10 job openings for retail, warehouse, and restaurant but these online applications are dead ends. Any ideas?
