"Five P's of Job Search Hunting"
Here's a project I shared at a seminar speaking in Nashville, TN. Thought this was great to share with Jobcase. Enjoy!
Job hunting can be similar to a marketing project, only this time the P words are Positioning, Process, and Persistence, followed closely by Performance and Personality. The product, YOU, is comprised of all of the above. Only if you execute your search skillfully will there be a chance to sell to prospective employers.
Here's a look at how this translates into designing and executing a project for an effective outcome.
Positioning
The first step is to identify what makes you a unique candidate. This can be hard to do for yourself, but it's also the most essential piece. Seek outside help from a trusted mentor or career management professional.
Process
Identify your target employers and then assess their needs in terms of how you can address them better than anyone else. The better the match, the greater the likelihood of the employer showing an interest in you. If you understand employer needs first and then promote your skills against these requirements, your chances of making a connection are much greater than if you concentrate only on your abilities without customizing them for an individual situation.
Persistence
Especially in this economy, it is imperative that a candidate be focused and be vigilant. Concentrate your efforts on activities with the largest potential return on your investment. Keep track of your contacts and refresh them periodically. Use different methods to stay in touch varying phone, email, snail mail, an article or clipping, invitations, face to face, etc. according to the recipient's preferences. Remember that in networking, maintaining contact is key to results. Ask your contacts for advice, introductions and information, but don't ask directly for a job. Recommendations carry tremendous weight over cold calls and unsolicited inquiries. If you can get a colleague to make a direct referral to a prospective employer, your chances of being given serious consideration are much higher.
Performance and Presentation
Your resume speaks to your strengths, talents and skills but nothing beats actual performance to prove to an employer that you can deliver for them. If you can provide proof of your competency through a specially prepared presentation, you have demonstrated initiative and creativity as well as knowledge. Rather than using words alone, show the prospective employer what you are made of!! Do a report which demonstrates your grasp of the concepts and your ability to use the material effectively. Does this effort rate the preparation time? Yes, because it is more likely to gain attention and lead to further discussions of your mutual interests and ways you might fit into the organization. Don't waste a chance to show hiring managers your capabilities. That's what it takes to acquire a competitive advantage in a job market like this one.
Personality
No one hires on the basis of credentials alone. If you are fortunate enough to make direct contact with a prospective employer, concentrate on letting them get to know you. This is critical to encouraging the employer to be comfortable in choosing you to join their business. Gaining credibility might be even more important to your selection than whether your skills and background are desirable. Focus on generating a dialogue, getting to know each other, sharing experiences and thoughts. If there is good chemistry, the rest will follow. Just passing your credentials around is less likely to motivate people than if you can get them to like you and care about your future.
Only after a candidate has successfully connected with a prospective employer one on one is there any serious hope of developing the kind of trust that can lead to in-depth discussions about an employment agreement. Getting to this point requires correctly marketing yourself. To accomplish this, a candidate must create the right positioning. Putting together a unique value proposition that distinguishes you from others is key, as is selecting prospective employers who will appreciate what you bring to their organization. Just remember that if you do this right, it will still take time for things to click, for your network to generate leads and for employers to decide to commit to your ideas. So keep up your campaign until you sign the deal.

My 7 Bible Verses about Finding A Job.
Looking for and finding a good job can be very daunting in today’s economy for individuals of all walks of life. I recently found myself unemployed and looking for a new job, and I have to share that it was a very difficult and lengthy process. Even though I had a good resume, several academic degrees, and a lot of experience, it took me quite a while to find the great job that I have now. The Lord provided for my every need, though, and the following 7 Bible verses about finding a job encouraged and sustained me in my search.
Psalm 90:17 “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.” First of all, it is crucial to recognize that we need the Lord’s favor to rest on us and to establish the work of our hands. We need him to guide us to the right position, and place us where we can be of utmost service to his Kingdom. He also knows where Patheos be fulfilled and reach our highest potential. Praying and asking for his guidance and blessing in our job search will pay off with the highest dividends. Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;” Finding the right employment requires us to trust in the Lord with all of our hearts and not lean on our own wisdom. I have to confess that I tried running ahead of God several times in my recent job search, and I even began two separate part-time jobs in my feeble attempts to find work. I was miserable in both of those jobs, though, and I quickly came to realize my lack of trust in God’s timing and provision. The solution to my impatience and lack of faith is explained precisely in Proverbs 3:6, as Solomon shares, “in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Once I submitted to God’s direction, he was able to lead me where I needed to go. Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” I love this verse, because it is a very encouraging one. It reminds us that if we ask God for a job, that he will answer our request. If we seek the right job, we will find it. And if we knock on the employment door, it will be opened to us. God wants us to be productive members of society and the Kingdom, so he will provide for his children. Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Waiting on the Lord’s timing can be very challenging, and impatience often seems to rule my life. However, this verse keeps everything in proper perspective. God does work all things together for good for those who love him—in other words, for us. We have been called his children according to his purpose, so he will provide everything we need when we need it. This includes finding the right job for our skills, talents, and anointing level at the right time. I Corinthians 4:12 “We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;” Working is not a bad word, as God calls us to work hard with our own hands. It is something that he calls us all to do—whether we work at home or at an office, or whether we are sending out resumes or filling out applications—we need to do it as unto the Lord. We also need to bless and be a blessing no matter what else is going on around us even when we are cursed or persecuted. Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…” Finding the right job may seem like hard work, especially when we try to do it in our own strength. The important thing, though, is to give whatever we do all our effort. Whether it is working or looking for employment, we need to do it as if we are working for the Lord. He is our ultimate boss, and we should want to please him most of all. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.’” My final top verse about finding a job is this one, because it can be easy to want to give up. Good jobs are very hard to find these days, and it might seem simple to just stop trying to find one at all. After sending out over 100 resumes, I can say that I was tempted to give up on my employment search many times. However, I knew that I needed to keep searching for the position that God was preparing for me. This verse shows us the consequence of not working, and it is definitely one that as Christians we should avoid. CONCLUSION In conclusion, finding a job in today’s economy can be a very difficult undertaking. It might be tempting to give up, but God wants us to be contributing members of society and follow his leading and guidance to the right place of employment. He knows the timing and the place where we will be able to use our gifts and talents for the glory of his Kingdom. And as Christians, we know that the Lord will always provide for his children no matter what comes our way.
I am very grateful for the job opportunities I've been blessed with and accepted a management Care Specialist position. Stay strong in the lord and keep shining.

ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS FOR YOU
Just wanted to share encouraging thoughts for anyone struggling in job search or life.
About 10 years ago, I was in an extended job search. It took me almost 10 months to find permanent employment.
Fortunately I was part of a job search support group which provided me with tools and encouraging thoughts to continue when I was really down.
We had a tradition of a “graduation” speech when someone got a job and left the group. I recently discovered my “words of wisdom” to the group, and they seem as applicable today as then.
I share them with you in the hope that you will also appreciate these encouraging thoughts.
Here goes…
You have many more friends and far fewer enemies than you think.
Almost everyone wants to help. If they can’t help you today, they will tomorrow.
If you see yourself as a victim of circumstances, you will get stuck in the past. Let go and move on.
Opportunities present themselves in strange packages. Open the package even if you’re not sure what’s inside or if anything is inside. You never know.
The more drained and down you are, the more important it is to give back. This maintains your sense of self-worth.
Make your job search your job. If you get temporary or part-time work in addition, you will have a 50- or 60-hour work week. This keeps you in shape for the “real world.”
Find one thing each day to be grateful for. Write it down. When you are “in the dumps” read through the encouraging thoughts you’ve written.
Take care of yourself physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
Associate with people who share encouraging thoughts, and stay away from those who do not (although easier said than done!).
Identify your passion, and speak clearly about it. People are impressed when you know what you want and are good at.
Treat everyone you meet with kindness and courtesy, even if they don’t treat you well
Distinguish clearly between “wants” and “needs.” This distinction helps you with the challenge of limited income. You may find that most of your “needs” are actually “wants.”
Distinguish clearly between those parts of the job search over which you have control and those where someone else has control. This will help you stay assertive and avoid being either passive or pushy.
Find enjoyment wherever you can. Laugh at least once every day.
If you have been struggling in an extended job search, I hope these ideas will give you a boost. I wish you all the best and believe that the right opportunity for you will present itself. Stay positive and never give up.

BEWARE of these SCAMS!!!!!!!
I read a VERY interesting article this morning on various popular scams - some of them I already instinctively knew about and some I didn't! EVERYONE needs to read this!!! Here is the link to the article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/vanessamcgrady/2017/03/17/scam/#49c073d36d27

Stay Encouraged
Hello, all I am a 37yr old single mother of one. I moved from Florida to Georgia in 2008. After the loss of my son 2007. I decided to have at a fresh start, after working as a teacher aid for four years. Transitioning to GA was easy to do! However, finding adequate employment to sustain us was a difficult task. No matter what! I decided to remain positive and surround myself with nothing but, positive people. After being turned down from many opportunities. I decided to make some changes and the first thing I did was enrolled myself in college. I'm saying all of this to say, that I have obtained my bachelors in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University with a concentration in legal studies. Do not give up! Continue to be resilient with perusing your goals! Remain positive! And only surround yourself with positive people! I hope my story encourages you to push on! Xoxo

Keep Several Resumes Polished and Ready To Go!
After many years worth of Trial and Error, I finally smartened up and re-wrote my resume, several times. I now have a resume for just about every skill I have that my be job worthy or that some employer my want to hire me for. This is so that my resume is no longer than one to two pages long. Because of my age, I have taken out dates (unless asked for I don't offer them up), and information that may not be pertinent to that particular position. I also have a resume for my entrepreneurial skills and past home-office experience. By having a PDF and a working WORD document of each of these resumes, they are either ready to go right then and there, or can easily be updated to fit what the hiring agent may be looking for. Try this and see how helpful and time-saving it will be. Good luck to each of you in your searches for the "perfect" position.
