I've always wondered why some employers request references during the application process. Considering the number of applicants applying for positions - to request "additional" information (that will not even be used if the applicant is not chosen) impedes and/or slows down the application review process. In my previous position, I was in charge of hiring CSR's. I only requested references when candidates were actually being considered for the position. It's enough that resumes have to be reviewed and vetted - which can take some time if there's a big response. So to ask applicants for information that's not going to be actually used is a waste of time for the employer and it's unfair for the applicant since he/she has to supply information that's not going to be used.

Its that companies do not value their employees or customers. They are in it for a Visa or just don't understand the business they are running, they just have the money to start a company, Fake it till you make it mentality. I've worked for plenty of companies especially in the South that give you the old "We're going in a different direction, you didn't do anything wrong"... Always have a side gig and screw the jobs that do not value people. 😉

Cashier jobs
There is power in the words such as adjectives, pronouns, and nouns that you use in your resume. For instance, when I was hired at a jewelry store as my first job...there were several people who knew that their credit was not where it needed to be, but somehow the precise detail-specific qualities were money makers. As a cashier...I would always say that the best register always has 100.00 worth of ones to start off, 50.00 worth of fives, 50.00 worth of tens, and 100.00 worth of twenties. Now some registers require more money but these registers typically have less for your safety. Then, if you are able to be aware of your surroundings while exposing money that is an acknowledgement that you are not showing everything that you have to anybody. Finally, always remember the customer is always right. When a customer is speaking about an issue and it seems like something is off, be aware because there are always customers who tend to know that they are right in a situation that could be wrong, but ultimately this can be a pass/fail situation that could make management change some things around in the company which could lead to now hiring.

Is this the reason my background is holding me back?
I need to explain why my background check is failing. I was put in jail unjustly and have a huge False Imprisonment case...I just haven't started the process of a suit yet. When COVID hit, I had JUST won a very long, difficult custody case. My kids were quarantined in with my ex husband and I couldn't see them anymore and I became severely depressed. Against better judgement, with a poor mental state, I tried to take my own life and ended up in the ER days later still in a coma from all the psych pills I took. I was scared, unsure of where I was, and I just saw lights and masks and I was deemed in a psychosis. Well, I was seeing things and hearing things and at a point I accidentally (& apparently) struck a nurse in the mask area. She was given the choice to press charges or not and she decided to go thru with pressing charges on someone who wasn't even stable WHATSOEVER. This decision of hers took away 18 months of my life, as they threw me in jail and named meat felon for doing something I'm not even responsible for doing, as I was again--coming out of a coma. They sent me to a psych ward from the ER where I was still deemed to be in a psychosis for approximately 3 days. How am I responsible for anything I did unconsciously and I'm a psychosis? I was robbed of my gains, my accomplishments, and am left to start over---again! I'm currently enrolled in a program that will expunge my record in about 2-3 years from now, but I'll be starting a lawsuit as soon as humanly possible, everything just revolves around money and I'm being denied career opportunities due to my background and all i am guilty of is trying to take my own life against better judgement. I am in weekly therapy and have no suicidal thoughts anymore. I'm working to get back with my children what I lost so unfairly. So, that's the reason I'm a felon.... I hope this can be taken into consideration upon hiring decisions. Thank you kindly Carlin Novelli-Paravati
