I've been in search of any type of fulltime employment for almost two and a half months...I've gotten a lot of emails, phone calls, a few interviews, even a drug screening/physical...just to be turned away because of my criminal background...SMH

Is it really WHO YOU KNOW or WHAT YOU KNOW that matters?!?!?!

Ever since I have started looking for a job in San Antonio, TX, everybody keeps telling me that it is extremely important to know the right people to get the right job, and that skills come in second... Seriously?! For years I have been trying to reach a company based here, for a position of VP of Int'l Mktg, for the European and Middle Eastern markets. Even though I HAVE CREATED THE COMPANY'S BUSINESS PLANS AND BRANDING FOR THE MARKETS IN EGYPT AND, RESPECTIVELY, KUWAIT when I was working in those two countries, I was deemed unfit because I do not know the right people to be accepted in the CLIQUE!!! Yet, every six months 9 for the past 7 years!), when the ad for the position comes up on job sites, they keep hiring incompetents that embarrass the company on an international level, because most people have no experience on how to deal with the locals... The company gets a bad reputation, the VP gets fired, and "hoopla!", there's a new ad!!! And, again, I get passed over, for a new "friend of a friend"... I grew up in Europe, I am originally from Romania, and I have seen/experienced first hand what a society/economy based on (what we used to call "PCR: Pile, Cunostinte, Relatii") "Who you know", rather than "What you know" mentality has done... Mediocrity ruled and the system, eventually, failed...

I dream of a day when the recruiter looks at what I can do, rather than who I know, and... oh, well...

What do you have to say about this?! Looking forward to see your point of view. Thank you.

At wits end

I've had to make life's changes. And when it all began I had a very good job. I thought this was going to be the job I would retire from, because I enjoyed what I was doing then. But now it's been very difficult to find a job that I can pay bills, support my elderly mother and maybe have just a little left over for other needs.

#7 weeks

Hi everyone, A lil down today, it has been seven weeks since I've worked, n I am really stressed out. I keep reminding myself not to get into that slump. You know where you just want to give up the search for a job, a decent job, something, actually anything. But I know I have to keep trying and just wait for the right one to come along. It's out there I know it is, just finding it, that's the issue! Anyways, wish everyone the best!

I have great experience in many things but being a stay at home mom on and off for 16 yrs makes it impossible to get a possible employer to give me a try... when i have had a job i move my way up the ladder quickly... just want to be able to rake care of my kids on my own...

Never Give Up

I have always been a hard working, loyal, honest person throughout my whole life. I have had a few struggles in my life with My youngest daughter dying of liver cancer back in 2011 and shortly after that I had problems with the DHS and being put in jail. Long story short My ex boyfriend would drink and put hands on me and we would fight and argue a lot and the police would eventually get called. So my two older children were taken from me and put into DHS custody. I was unable to complete my ISP plan and was late for court one day and my parental rights were automatically terminated. That just about killed me. I have been struggling with a lot of life problems the last few years.I know I cant change the past but I am trying to learn how to accept what has happened in my life and pick myself back up and move forward again. I am going to always try to move forward in life and build myself back up again. I need to get a job that is dependable and get a vehicle and my own place as well. I had been staying with friends for a while now and I am not the type of person to sit back and do nothing and hope for the best to happen. I like to work, I always do my best on any job that I am doing. I really need a change to happen so that I can take care of myself again and start living my life. I hope to have a chance to get hired and get my life going in the right direction. Thank you
