Is this America or not?
I’m trying to believe this is the Land of Opportunity… but it seems hard to see right now. I’m just trying to put one foot in front of the other, give it my all, and hope something better comes my way.
I don’t know if Obama is to blame or if Trump will make things better or if we are getting screwed by the 1%... but I choose to believe that this is America - where perseverance CAN win the day.

I told you so!
My parents seem to think I’m some sort of lazy bum because I’ve moved back in with them. I’ve been trying to tell them that the job market just isn’t what it used to be, when they were trying to make it on their own.
Now, I’ve finally got statistics to back up my case! 40% of all young adults are living with relatives these days!

Jobs for all I say!
Had to chime in on the Trump making this country great again and the comment about liberals wanting to get paid for NOT WORKING! First off Trump only cares about the rich and 1% and gives less than a damn about the working class... You will soon see... And it's funny that the RED states are the poorest and most unemploeyed on welfare! Lol! Live on! Heads UP everyone. These days you work harder and harder for less pay and no loyalty from the companies you are busting your ass for! Stay strong... I'm hoping this year is better for us all!

The United States needs to build a more responsive labor market with more career paths outside the traditional degree track.
New research from McKinsey identifies five priorities for shaking off US economic stagnation and creating more widely shared prosperity. The McKinsey Global Institute makes a case for the private sector becoming the “connective tissue that brings both parties together around a new agenda for revving up growth.”
Says McKinsey: "the United States needs to build a more responsive labor market with more career paths outside the traditional degree track." Agreed! Kudos to Jobcase for breaking down job barriers for millions of Americans. http://neytenda.com/post/153567683049/linkedin-for-everyone-else

How did you Rebound?
Did anyone here decide to go back to school after the 2008 recession? I was laid off from my job in early 2009 and thought about going back to school but decided to get into another career instead. People thought I was crazy for taking such big pay cut at the time but the risk is finally starting to pay off now that I have more experience. Other co-workers and people I know decided to go back to school for advanced degrees but are still struggling to find employment. Are there any advantages to continuing education for mid to senior level career people looking for new jobs?

Good News for Jobs or More Smoke and Mirrors?
Does anyone know how to interpret these unemployment reports? I’m just asking cause I’m still trying to find a career job opportunity with a moderate salary and benefits. This is an encouraging news article but the lack of employer responses to my applications and resume is telling me another story. Are there really more jobs or did more people just stop looking? http://money.cnn.com/2016/12/02/news/economy/november-jobs-report/

Are you better off than your parents were at the same age?
Isn’t this the backbone standard of The American Dream? How many of you can honestly say or think that you're better off economically than you parents were at the same age? Many say NO and blame slow economic growth and income inequality while others say YES and credit more access to education and technological advances have lead to better job opportunities and new job markers. What do you say?

Combat Income InEquality!
Bold move on behalf of the Portland,OR city council to penalize companies that give higher ratios of pay to CEOs with higher taxes. Some may see this at this as good method to level out the income inequality issue but how does this cultivate more new business and jobs in Portland and other cities that choose to follow along this path. Continually taxing and penalizing the hell out of the well to do to solve all the local and national economic deficits eventually get’s old and inspires less people to aspire to be within the well to do. At what point does income equality simply and unanimously become the morally right thing to do for corporate and government decision makers in this country? http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/portland-ceo-pay-1.3886955?ex_cid=SigDig

Feeling Marginalized and Left Out?
I can’t help feeling empathy after listening to some the voices of despair, frustration, and uncertainty over members unjustly losing their jobs or inability to find work. It’s easy to rush to judgement and assume these members can’t find jobs simply because they’re not trying hard enough but for someone who’s successfully surfed in and out of many jobs and careers and raised up to learn how to lift myself up by my own bootstraps and never ask for help in the past I can honestly say that things aren’t as clear and simple as they were in the past. Dying industries, rapidly evolving need for technical skills, and ageism discrimination are realities affecting the current workplace that many of us find increasingly difficult to maneuver through. Finding a job is impersonal and maintaining a job is fierce. I like to think I’m one of many other members on this site who don’t regard your message of pain and frustration as a sign of weakness, negativity, or complaint. I also know what it’s like to suddenly lose your income and have your whole life turned upside down. It’s a scary and lonely place to be. I encourage those in need to continue asking for help and inspire help from others who can offer it. People helping people is what it’s all about. Happy Holidays!
