Where are all the jobs?

I’ve been on disability for 16 years due to 2 automobile accidents, 1 nearly fatal. I had to let go of my business due to some physical limitations that would’ve interfered with the proper care of my clients. I have been looking for part time work since but, can’t seem to get my foot in the door for any employment. I’m not lazy & very much a go getter!! I need to find extra work to aid my disability pay, it is not enough to survive on. I am a college graduate with an A.S. Degree. I can do anything I put my mind to. This is an everyday search for me but, I will NOT give up!

Right to work states and getting fired for BS

So I worked for NCR for 1 1/2 years. Loved fixing atm machines as I have an electronics background. But back issues from the military made work slightly difficult, always bending, twisting, contorting, lifting parts fixing the machines. The company had great health insurance so I opted for laser back surgery to fix my issue. The surgery was supposed to have me out only 6 weeks but was extended to 12 to ensure full healing. The day I came back to work, I was called into a hotel conf room and asked to explain where over $50,000 total had gone missing from multiple banks. I explained I had no clue as I had a good job, disability from the VA, and my wife worked so money wasn't an issue. I asked for video proof as ALL atm machines have cameras, to which the investigator replied, "Don't worry, I do my job very well". Was terminated the next day but no charges were ever filed, which tells me they had nothing because stealing from a bank is a federal crime and always prosecuted. My opinion is that they fired me due to excess time off to recover (a coworker had warned me that would happen also).

Here is the dilemma, now that I am graduating with my Bachelors in Oct, I am already looking to reinsert myself into the work force. Do I list NCR on my resume? If so, how do I go about explaining the circumstances of my termination? I know employers are not legally allowed to tell other people bad stuff from your employment, but I also know it happens.

Thanks for any advice, especially from any HR type people who have hands in hiring.

I Got Unfairly Dismissed

I got Unfairly dismissed , because of a disagreement with another Co-Worker, who should never have been Involved in the first place, who is always involving themselves in situations that they don't belong in, and with no witnesses, and who also lied in the statement that they provided. I am 60 years of age and been in full -time employment since the age of 16 years old. I have always been a loyal employee, and never been Terminated from any job in my Life. This hurts badly, and has put me at an all time LOW. But I still get up each morning, trying to find work, Still Applying including looking to Diverse into a new role if need. On top of all this as well as other medical issues, I am not able to list as disable, even although the max I can lift is 25 lbs, due to an USA doctor making a mistake in a knee replacement, which cause me 14 months later to have another replacement on the same leg. The weight restriction is not due to the joint, its because of the surrounding trauma. So I have already had to diversify from my original Career, which was hands on, in the field and physically demanding. But regardless of the applied position it always states experience required, with Physical lifting ability is 50 lbs being the norm. My last position I was able to get without knowing anything about HVAC and other office duties, this was due to knowing and referenced by another employee. But trying to get an employer in todays market to give you that chance is hard???. This sucks when all you want to do is work and get a job..to Live and Provide. The sad thing about this is that the person who caused it, has left the company and moved on to another position !!! with no remorse or guilt about their actions.

Computer Support Specialist Pre-Apprenticeship Starting May 2019

Able-Disabled Advocacy (A-DA) is recruiting now for Computer Support Specialist Pre-Apprenticeship training. Classes begin once each quarter. Those interested in attending an orientation should apply immediately, as we have orientations filling up quickly. Classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you already have one or more of the certifications or have recent IT experience, we can look to get you started on a track that best fits your level of experience. We are located in City Heights, San Diego. To apply: http://www.able2work.org/signup/

Able-Disabled Advocacy’s (A-DA’s) IT Pre-Apprenticeship Program is a training, certification and employment program that is designed for individuals who have identified their passion for technology and desire to pursue an IT career. Students learn basic technical support skills and attain IT certifications that are demanded by local employers, all at little or no cost. With A-DA’s $3.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, the training is free and the cost of the exams for two certifications will be paid by the program. During the 8-month program, students attain their CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+ certifications while attending classes two days each week. This full-time program is demanding; 20 hours of study each week is expected. Stu-dents are required to pass their certification exams by the exam due dates in order to complete the program on schedule.

Pre-Apprenticeships Offer a Pathway to A-DA’s Apprenticeship Program Pre-apprenticeship training is not paid. Students will need a source of income that will allow them to complete the entire Pre-Apprenticeship Program. The program includes career counseling, interview and resume preparation, and job search tips. This training will prepare pre-apprentices to enter A-DA’s IT Registered Apprenticeship Program. A-DA staff will work directly with pre-apprentices to identify employment opportunities that will fulfill the requirements of A-DA’s Computer Support Specialist apprenticeships. Pre-Apprentices will apply for jobs with staff assistance and once hired, they will be placed into A-DA’s Computer Support Specialist Registered Apprenticeship Program. Apprenticeships are a “learn while you earn” model; apprentices learn while working On-the-Job in the IT industry with guidance from a committed employer. To further improve skills, the technical training continues during the apprenticeship, with apprentices continuing to work on attaining the Windows 7 certifications. Apprentices can build a successful IT career without incurring student debt. This alternative to college provides a pathway to be successful in high-skilled, high-paying jobs that are in demand. To begin the application process, complete the Program Interest Form on A-DA’s website at http://www.able2work.org/signup/. See the Computer Support Specialist Pre-Apprenticeship Training Free Classroom Training for CompTIA A+/Network+/Security+ Certifications

Application Process: Candidates must complete several steps in order to complete the application process for pre-apprenticeship training.

  • Complete the Program Interest Form on A-DA’s website: http://www.able2work.org/signup/.
  • Provide a resume, application, questions and copies of certifications
  • Attend an orientation
  • Take the required assessment exams
  • Interview with A-DA’s Selection Committee

This is a competitive process. We have more applicants than available seats. Each applicant will receive a score based on exam results and interview scores to create a ranking. Priority will be given to Veterans, women and individuals with disabilities.

Orientations: At the orientation you will learn all of the de-tails about the Pre-Apprenticeship Program. If you are interested, you will be asked to stay to complete your testing assessments—reading, math and PC skills test. Plan to spend three hours to complete every-thing. Call John Gentile at (619) two three one-5990, ext. 309 or email john "at" able2work.org if you have questions. Your questions about the program will be answered at the orientation.

Able-Disabled Advocacy’s Pathways2Paychecks Program has received 100% program funding or $3.2 million from the U.S. Department of Labor’s American Apprenticeship Initiative to develop 300 apprenticeships in San Diego.

Requirements for A-DA’s DOL Apprenticeship Program Minimum Age: 21 Education: A High School diploma or GED is required. We encourage applicants to attend postsecondary education prior to apprenticeship application; how-ever, it is not required. Proof of education must be submitted. Education and work experience will be evaluated; apprentices can receive credit for previous education and work experience. Background Check: Apprentices must be able to pass a drug screen and background check. Experience: Experience is not required to begin the pre-apprenticeship training; however, A-DA encourages candidates to obtain hands on experience by volunteering to improve their application assessment score. A-DA can offer suggestions on how to get this work experience. Note that applicants who enter the program with some experience may score higher on the testing and interviews. This is a competitive opportunity.

Contact John Gentile, Business Services Manager at (619) two three one-5990 extension 309 or john "at" able2work.org if you have questions.

1st step: Complete the Program Interest Form on A-DA’s website: http://www.able2work.org/signup/.

Should I disclose my disability on appilacation

I've had Parkinson Disease for about 2 and half years. People can tell that I have PD except when they see my hands shaking from time to time, but mostly when I to do any hand writing which is getting worse. So when I fill out an application the question is " do I have a disability?" do I mark "Yes" or "No". I feel that if I mark yes, I will have no chance at getting a job. Anyone else have this problem?

Where can I find A good job?

I came off active duty for the Navy in Sept. 2017 I was supposed to be brought back to my old job but they told me it was gone. I am no longer employed there. I have a B.S. in ORG. Management. I have over 10 yrs sales experience I was a tradesman, a foreman, a supervisor, and list goes on. I have held short term jobs since then painting a handyman stuff. I have applied to over 1300 jobs on line. I have only had two careers my whole life so I am being told I am over qualified or not recommended for job. I am a disabled veteran status but can work doing almost any job. I was told I have preference for jobs but I am not seeing. Being a supervisor I have been thorough in my endeavor but I am not getting results. Does anyone or company out there need a go to guy for a job?
