I started a new 4 month contract job. There is no potential for hire after the contract because we are only here for a computer conversion. After being there a week my mom asked me to attend an out of town wedding with her (my dad was ill). I needed to take 2 unpaid days off to travel out of town to meet my mom to take a bus with her to attend the wedding. I asked 2 weeks in advance for the time off and was told no. Meanwhile, my contractor co-worker has called in sick a couple days with no consequences. Next time should I call in sick instead? I tried to do the right thing and now am stuck at home missing an important family event seeing relatives I haven't seen in a year and don't know when I'll get a chance again.

My assignment at Pratt Industries Valparaiso Paper Mill/Fiber Yard was terminated because I reported that I was hit and injured by a permanent Pratt employee recklessly operating a forklift truck The Pratt employee was driving too fast for conditions while carrying two bales of o.c.c fiber material in the forward position with his view obstructed by the bales,he should have been driving in the reverse position when his view is obstructed,, I WAS WRONGFULLY TERMINATED,they say I had job performance issues as a reason to terminate me,,, " Can somebody help me please ,Thank You.

I'm aware that as a temporary contractor, it's not your company's responsibility to provide vacation or personal time off (PTO). However, I do have a question to ask. Just Wrong!
I'm just venting. last October I was let go from a job of fifteen years for leaving for lunch without badging out. I worked for a major oil company in Texas and was always at work, took three sick days in fifteen years always on time. My work was always exemplary. I did this while driving 125 miles a day. So thus far I have not been able to find work due to the down turn in the petrochemical market. I was a contract employee so the person who made the decision called it a ROF and sent me home. By the way I did not work or even know this person. When I started asking questions of my coworkers most were helpful except the direct workers for the company that were told to not talk to me and drop the issue. As a contract employee even one that was working on site for fifteen years is there not any thing that can be done to help in this situation? Sorry for the rant, but it can be tough being a contractor in Texas.
