College Education But NO JOBS

Our kids are graduating now, often with huge student loans, but finding no jobs. Instead of just whining about this we could take some action.

Much of the problem is due to industry's embrace of the H1b visas. They are non-immigrant visas which allow US industries to import foreign workers instead of hiring American kids.

The lie behind this is that are just not enough people in America to cover the work, so poor industry just "has" to import them. But we all well know there are millions of people in America glad to work.

The truth is that the foreign workers are much, much cheaper- it's just another scam to get cheap labor and throw the American workers on the street.

The contract houses especially love the H1b- because they can bid a contract at an American pay scale but fill it with an H1b visa person- and the difference in pay inflates their profit margins. The result is lots of them refuse to hire an American.

That's one BIG reason, as people on this forum continually complain, they NEVER get callbacks or even acknowledgements on jobs they apply for The fix is in, and it's NOT in favor of American workers.

And these are NOT McDonalds level jobs, like with the unskilled illegals. These are the professional jobs our kids deserve to get when they graduate from college, but unfortunately, since our kids are Americans, are denied them.

It is so bad one Indian company, Tata, has almost seized the ENTIRE base of allowed H1b visas by ITSELF. Other countries are now even being cut out by Tata.

We got into this mess because we let industry sell out the working man of this country. Weird. Do you think India and China have special visas so they can bring in Americans and hire them at a priority over their own children and citizens. No of course not. Only here does this perversion exist.

Whatever. The Federal government is FINALLY starting to examine the H1b problems. So the iron is hot, so to speak, for we Americans to strike. We need to email our Congressmen and tell them to kill the H1b program, which should never have existed in the first place, and to cancel existing H1b visas.

If we do that our kids may have a chance to get a job when they get out of college. Otherwise we might as well close our colleges, the degrees will be expensive but lead no where, which is unfortunately pretty much how it is getting already.

Just email your representatives and tell them to kill the H1b, and hire American kids from now on. It's OUR country after all, and we have the right to make sure our kids have a fair chance.

It's not that hard to do. Just Google your local representatives. It gives you a chance to actually DO something about our poor economy. Following find a typical link. Stand up for your kids.

I am sure I will be greatly reviled here, called "racist" etc, but Americans need to start standing up for themselves. If you don't have the guts to stand up for yourself then at least do it for the poor kids graduating from college, they did NOT create the mess they must endure.

Pay decrease

First of all I am looking for a new job before anyone says look for a job. My current employer just paid everyone for our regular payroll schedule. I noticed that my check was cut in half for the previous pay. I thought it was a mistake so I contacted our payroll department. When I explained what happen to my pay as I seen it. They informed me that they were notified from my Manager that I had accepted a 50% pay cut. Confused by this because why would anyone accept a 50% pay cut. I asked them to provide me a copy of the signed contract stating that I had accepted the cut. Payroll told me that they had not received anything but a verbal from my manager. They told me that I had accepted the pay cut because why would my manager lie to them. I than asked them for a copy of my employment contract and they said they did not have it. I have to contact Human Resources. I contacted Human Resources and they sent me a copy of my contract which I signed 10 years ago because that was the only thing they had. When I told them I was confused about the pay cut and was told that payroll explained that my manager verbally told them to cut my pay. HR told me to tread lightly on the accusations because if I put in a complaint I will automatically be terminated for lying. If I complain to the labor board with prove I will be terminated for something made up. The company has no actions in my HR personnel file since I requested a copy of it and HR sent me an email explaining there was nothing there. What do I do besides looking for a job and dealing with a substainal pay cut.

Need Advice!

So after searching for a job for a couple months I finally found something. The problem I am faced with is it is with a comany that is contracted with the city I live in and will only be here for a year. So I am unsure if I should keep applying elsewhere now or wait a little closer to the year mark.

Billing drone

I currently work for a pretty big insurance company as a contractor, at the time of hire we were told the main goal was to get a permanent position, I'm over 50 and was very excited because I really believed I could get hired permanently, with over 15 Years experience in customer service. So I followed all the rules, hot the required metrics the first month.after 3 Months o applied for one of the perm jobs in claims and wasn't offered the position. So I kept upy metrics and applied for a agency support position and again was turned down during this time I was receiving praise for all my good work and was told not to get discouraged so 2 months ago another claims position became available so I applied again and recieved a declination e Mai stating I wasn't eligible to be interviewd again.there have been many contractors that were offered people positions but I noticed all of them we're young none of the contractors over 50 no matter how well preformed never missing any work can't seem to get hired. I'm very pissed at this company Safeco insurance for how they build people up just to reject them now myself and two of my over 50 Co workers are looking for another job. I wish there was a way I could prove age discrimination but I don't know how, thank you for letting me tell my story and need lots of luck

Headhunters

Why do I keep getting job postings for temporary jobs on the other side of the country? Do people actually take those jobs? No, I don't want a 3 month assignment in Utah!!!

3 month assignments - is this the market norm

I recently applied for project support temporary positions. The job description did not say the length of the assignment. Either during the interview or while speaking to the recruiter, it is mentioned that the position is until the end of the year and then the company will re-evaluate their budget. I am concerned that this will a short-term job to my resume which I will have to later explain to the next employer. Is this the norm now for companies to provide temp/contract positions for only 3-6 months?

Looking for information

I was a contract employee for a major oil company ( which is located in Texas) for fifteen years and last October I was asked to leave for not badging out for lunch. In those years I never received a complaint about my work. My question is as follows, can or has a contract person ever sued a company for retirement benifits that a direct employee would get for the same term of service. During that time the employer set my hours and work days. My schedule was the same as any other employee at the site. Any information regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
