Medical Case Management department Supervisor, if well supported by
I'm looking for a challenging opportunity to transform my expertise from the acute care hospital setting into a satisfying experience for patients needing follow up for their disease processes and an effective cost savings for my employer.
Hi Everyone, I am a 20+ year nurse in San Diego with experience in med/surg, case management and inpatient nurse management. I'm currently looking for a position in either clinical documentation, case management, or education. However, it is so overwhelming to search for a position. It seems so many recruiters and agencies are the "front men" for positions. While I am pretty organized, I find myself lost in the myriad of emails and listings! I'm so grateful for the many opportunities available for me but any suggestions for staying focused and not becoming lost within the "matrix". lol! Thank you so much for any ideas.

Im interested in re entering the job market. I have my MSW but I'd prefer not to work in management. Social services including even simple case management would be great. I'd like not to have to work long hours again (10 + hours per day was not enjoyable). Here is my experience if you need it: Emergency room pediatric social worker at Bronx municipal hospital (5 years) Emergency room evening shift for 5 ERs at Presbyterian hospital in Manhattan. (2 years) Family Services Worker in the Quinault Indian Nation (2 years) Mental health therapist in the Quinault Indian Nation (3 years) Therapist and family youth specialist at SAFY ..specialized alternatives for family and youth (a foster care agency). I retired five years ago to become an artist and I've done well (theimpossiblechild.etsy.org) I hate the isolation of being an artist and miss being around people. So I thought I'd get a job again. My skills are with people. My deficits are with numbers. I admire cashiers! I'd like to make around $15.00 per hour if that is possible.
I have over 20 Years experience in case management. But since I have been looking g for work the past 8 months , it hard to find employment unless you speak Spanish. Any in site. However I am 54 Years old and suggestions.
Here is something called the Case Manager's Creed that lists lots of attributes we use. I don't remember where I got this but is so true! To be a case manager, one must be courteous, diplomatic, caring, shrewd, persuasive, assertive, creative, supportive, understanding, responsible, slow to anger, adaptable, a Sherlock Holmes, a motivator, up-to-date, good looking, have a good memory, acute business judgment, emotional stability and the embodiment of virtue, but with a good working knowledge of sin and evil in all its forms.
A case manager must understand insurance, electricity, chemistry, physiology, mechanics, architecture, physics, bookkeeping, banking, merchandising, selling, shipping, contracting, claims adjusting law, medicine, real estate, horse trading and human nature. A case manager must be a coordinator, clinician, coach, therapist, educator, consumer advocate and administrator.
A case manager must be a mind reader, a hypnotist and an athlete, must be acquainted with machinery of all types and materials of all kinds and must know the current price of everything from a shoestring to a skyscraper, an aspirin to an amputation. They must know all, see all, and tell nothing and be everywhere at the same time.
They must satisfy the claims manager, the claims examiners, the home office claims department, the underwriting department, the supervisors, the solicitor, the insured, the claimant and the state industrial commission.
