My back!!!

Oh no!!! I have been looking for a job for a month or so now and I got a call for an interview for tomorrow morning!! I was just trying to give my large boxer a bath and she jerked back away from me and she threw my back out and I can barely stand up straight!! What do I do?!!! This is the worst timing! Nobody wants to hire someone who potentially has a bad back, which I don’t, it just happened!

PMP/CAPM Exam Suggestions

Hi. While I was studying for the exam, some members of a local PM group were kind enough to share their helpful suggestions for passing. I'm starting this conversation to share them and add a few of my own. Would others who have taken the exam add your advice, please?

Office Junky

What do you do after you retire? Volunteer, of course, until you realize you are working far more than you planned without the paycheck. Don't get wrong here--I love doing the work and the people I work with. It just is helpful at the end of the month. So, how do you get a job when you are over 65 that doesn't include sales (yuck!), bagging at the local grocery (really?), or packing/stocking products (not good on the back)? Why can't I use my real talents that I spent most of my employed-life perfecting?

Job experience as Instructor.

I have been a Medical Instructor for 20 years. I would like to teach in a community college but since like going through a maze in finding the credentials you need to get into this industry.

Somewhat confused

Hello my name is Jessica and I work in the culinary field. I had applied to for this one position as a line/prep cook at this Bakery that also serves breakfast and lunch. And I got an interview with in I would say about a week. The interview went great I thought. Instead of it being like a 30 min it went on for an hour . We talked about my experience, her experience, her plans for Halloween pastries and food ideas as well as other menu ideas. The owners mother came in as well when we were interviewing and I met and talk with her. When the mother left to go to the back she said " It was very nice meeting you and we will see you soon." Most would take that as a good sign. Than when it came time for me to leave the owner said "well it was nice meeting you I will give you a call in a few days ." She also doubles checked to make sure the number was correct on my Resume. Now one of the things I did find out while on the interview was that this Bakery had only been open for 3 months. When I looked it up on Google it has great reviews and nothing about it being brand new so I honestly didn't know. She was also only able to offer part time as of now till the bakery beefed up its busy more than full time plus benefits. Which I had no issue with because I could always get a second job if need be until she made everyone full time. Well she said in a few days and it's been over a week. I called the bakery and was told that she would have to get back to me because she was busy. I haven't heard anything. I have more interviews lined up for this week and even though i wanted to work at the bakery I'm thinking I may take something else if its offers. Because I feel I may have gotten ghosted. What do you think?

Getting jobs out of state

Why is it sop difficult to get a job out of state. Due to cost of living in Colorado, I am considering moving in order to make a living. I have been applying for all sorts of work across the country and can't get a a call back. Why is it so difficult to get a job out of state? Is there some things that employers shy away from? How do I overcome this dilemma?

When negotiating salary, how willing are employers to exhange compensation for vacation time?

As I mature in my career, I'm finding that I prefer a better life/work balance, and that my time away from work is just as important as my dedicated time at work.

What I Miss About Working

It's been some time since I've worked due to my disability. However, I'm desirous to rejoin the workforce as I see so many opportunities to contribute to society, whether through technology, or product development, or the many, many new services that have come about since the birth of the Internet. The workplace has almost become a level playing field, as competition is less about one's looks, or friends in high places, or even obvious disabilities. I'm still young enough to productively contribute and feel an increasing need to do so. But don't misunderstand -- before becoming disabled, I've had several careers and put in nearly 40 years of paying my dues: I've owned a marketing firm, worked in advertising agencies, taught at the university level for nearly two decades, and even worked for the federal government in the 2010 Census. Now, I'm looking forward to reconnecting with people, professionally and personally, earning additional income to enhance the lives of my college-aged kids, and creating a comfortable future for my own retirement. So, what can you offer me?
