How do I show I'm Responsible?

I am in high school but looking for my very first job. How do I have people see that, though I'm more part of the younger crowd, I'm taking this very seriously and that I'm ready for some responsibility?#firstjob #advice #teenjobs #jobsearch

Hi @Kaetlyn Barfield and welcome to Jobcase. Do you have any volunteer experience? That's a great way to show that you are reliable and dependable. Also, are you a great student? Good GPA---shows that you're smart. Have you missed no or only a few days of school? Shows dependability. Think of ways to show that you are a dedicated and reliable person. These traits will serve you well when looking for a job. Have you considered working at Target, or in Fast Food? Those types of jobs can be stepping stones to other things.

When I was in High school I applied to a local grocery store every week until they finally hired me. Being persistent also shows dedication. I assume in this day and age most applications are online, but a visit to the store to talk to the manager a few times would also show dedication as well.

Hi Katelyn this question shows me you are intelligent and conscientious person who isn’t afraid to try new things . Don’t be afraid to fail and try to understand your worth ! They are lucky to have someone who can communicate and work hard . Your first few jobs you probably will only make minimum wage try to get a job at a major department store like target macys Walgreens Cvs or a grocery store where there are upward mobility incentives to stay longer and work for benefits etc . My friend worked at restoration hardware through school and then got a management job after college so getting a job where the surroundings are something you are “ in awe “ of is good . I had another friend whose niece worked at a climbing facility because she loved to climb and eventually became the manager because everyone wanted to come back and have her spot them on the climbing wall . My first job was babysitting and cleaning empty second houses and large million dollar houses with beautiful people and beautiful furniture and great Mexican pavers and lots and lots of windows . My sisters and I were part of this wierd cult liken church that the girls had to wear long dresses 👗) I love long dresses but made me non compliant when I ran cc for varsity high school team and soccer ha ha ) anyways I worked hard and eventually realized making commission on top of hourly was better

You shouldn’t have to prove that. Yet. Showing up and asking for a JOB shows that. I’ve owned three stores and always had teens and they were FAR more conscience and responsible and respectful than adults I’ve hired. Find a locally owned company. Walk in and ask to speak to owner or manager and say the last line you said up there. I’d hire you — period

Hi, good to see you are seeking that 1st job. The fortunate thing is there are choices for you. See if your school has an academic counselor on staff, then check with a work-source commission in your town. List three top jobs you would like to do as a teen, such as a fast food franchise, restaurant, or a grocery store or regular shopping stores such as (Target, Walmart, or Macy's). If you want to work for Amazon or work from home you may need at least 3 reputable references (people you have worked for or volunteered for in the past that can share your work experience, relating with others, and areas of focus. Have a great day and stay focused.
