Advance degrees do NOT garrentee good employees!! Requiring a bachelor degree discriminates against qualified applicants.

I so agree with that. Although I do have one, I know so many awesome people who could easily learn what I do & be successful. My best friend for one. I believe life experience is a great tool for work life.

Nope, it shows you can follow through on a long-term projects, meet deadlines and you can work with others to meet your goals. The same as you will be doing as an employee!

Try being a combat vet with Aspergers with an associate's degree in automotive services technology. I was a mechanic in the army for 8 years, then did a 3-year college program to obtain a DEGREE in the same field. think that matters in the automotive world? nope, everyone in my state wants "certifications" meaning you just go and take a test. the problem with taking the tests for me, is that they literally make no logical sense because there are multiple ways of doing things and they expect you to do it by their book. I haven't used a book in 18 years.

So how do you about this to a employer when you don't have a degree but 40 years of experience. I have the expertise. At some point everyone has to be shown something different about a job. Put yourself in that person shoes. How would you feel when you know you can do the job. We learn as we go. That's LIFE. We all learn as we grow. We make mistakes. Instead of chopping my head off, give me another shot. It's bad to say but its true. A person rakes a life..instead they are out given another chance. I say you do it a 2nd time you gone. So if you give that person a second chance (probation) why not me...every case is different.

Yes some of us go to college, trade school or whatever. Then you take what you have learned and use it. You gather from experience, and professional development. As you move forward you either take classes in that field. A degree is on paper and so is my experience. Experience is just as important as a degree. I took a job with no degree, but I also took a workshop that was very beneficial. All jobs don't require a degree...they want experience. When they see all your experience you are told I can't pay you...but a degree yes.. that's discrimination to me. You are giving a degree a shot so why not me. We learn new things everyday from all areas and your team. I myself know what I'm capable of and do a dam good job...

Lets face it..one goes to the University to get knowledge and most important of all to learn how to think !!!

@Lori Weiss Not all companies require degrees. But I’ve seen companies like Space X require at least an Associates Degree to drive a forklift as a material handler. Most companies that require degrees have a high paying salary.
