Ageism and discrimination? It's real. So what are your stories and solutions?
Age discrimination is a problem. New findings reveal ageism persists in the workplace, and more working women than men experience ageism. It’s gotten so bad, the House of Representatives passed a bill to protect older Americans in just the last week.
What are your stories, experiences, and how can we find new solutions to this problem? #ageism #motivation

The only way age discrimination is going to STOP is when a LAW is passed and adhered to where a person's Date of Birth is NOT required on a JOB application, PERIOD!!!! I don't care who does your Resume, once a Business looks at your Date of Birth on the application, your Resume/Experience is irrelevant!!!

I've applied for jobs thinking I'm lucky because no one wants to go back to work and it's easy pickins. As soon as the interview is over and they've seen that you are an older worker, you don't hear from them. I think companies need to realize how much knowledge they can glean from an older worker. We have great work ethic, loyal and take pride in the work we produce. I believe they are missing out on exceptional employees that actually want to come to work everyday.

At 63 years almost 64 years old, I had to turn down 3 jobs due the location of the job and having to return to the office. Returning to office in these cases were they to far for me uproot and leave from my current location. Pre-pandemic I couldn’t even buy a job. Now it’s like I’m 35 years old again in the job market, cheek you chin up! Jobs are out there and plenty of them. God bless and good luck…

I am not looking to make $200,000.00 a year now. Those days are past. What I want is to use my skills to help other Companies grow, hire the right people and train them right. In return I will get a modest salary and stay busy and live a long life.

As soon as I submit my resume, then nothing else they are looking @ the year I graduated from high school.

I agree no birthdate require

There is always ways to refuse jobs to the elderly

I've been retired for 8 years and prior to that I was in the same teaching position for 37 years.
Recently, I decided I wanted to work part-time to have some "grandma wants to take you shopping, or on a trip, or both!"
So, I updated my resume and posted it on ZipRecruiter and jobcase. That was Monday, it is now Thursday and I have interview for 3 jobs and accepted one of the offers. My age didn't seem to bother them at all. One company wanted to move me out of state for a full-time position.......it's been a wild ride.
The TIME IS NOW, those of us with experience are now valuable to many companies.

I didn't put my year that i graduated on my resume and my work history only goes back 10 years, but NOBODY hires off a resume alone! Upon submitting a resume, you are also required to fill out an application which first questions after the basic name, address, city, state, zip, etc., is what is your d.o.b. and what year did you graduate from high school. The application clearly states, any items left unanswered or blank will deem the application incomplete. So, to those of you who say you can get hired by simply submitting a resume are incorrect. I also worked for HR and and application is required per Department of Labor for every person applying for any position. There has to be documentation.
For anyone struggling to find employment because of your age, now is the time to take advantage of the fact that every employer, especially staffing agencies, are BEGGING for help. Since I was so out of touch in updating my resume, I paid to have a professional do it for me! Best money I've spent regarding job searching.
Make a list of every skill you have, both professional and personal and revolve your resume around those skills. Have a professional incorporate your skills into your updated resume. (I also go to the job description of each job and copy and paste some of their job requirements as skills into my resume)!
Having to compete in the job market with the younger professionals is tough, and the only way to stand out is TO USE YOUR EXPERIENCE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE!
