Being a woman, I'm appalled that so many shops are NOT willing to hire a female for work in the shop!!! I have had several years hands on - body/paint work and Mechanics - with an old family friend who is more than qualified to aim for the moon in any Body/Mechanical shop.

He finally convinced me to complete both courses and chase what I truly love. I'm in the Jackson, MS area - and although I realize that I still have a lot to learn - I either don't get an interview at all or else the interview seems to end on an awkward note.

What can I do to help promote myself to the available market and finally get a chance to prove myself?

I actually managed to use my own vehicle to better understand what I couldn't in class and then turned the knowledge on my car to make several "big" repairs myself. I'm ready and more than willing to give the effort and time to doing it right the first time.

Are the guys just that intimidated by the thought of having a woman in the shop?

I am a 20+ year seasoned automotive pro in anything except actual car sales. I'm seeking a service or parts management job in a dealership or top level auto shop. NOT interested in being a mechanic any longer. District Manager level is even better if it is a corporate company. I do not see too many listings in Florida so can someone point me in the right direction or to an opening you know of? Thank you.
