Content Manager at Jobcase

Sorry, you have no experience

Have you ever been told this before OR felt that you couldn’t apply for a job because you weren’t experienced enough? It's time to change that!

Check out these tips on how to gain more experience:

1- Get trained Identify educational programs or courses that are reputable, respected, and more importantly offer instruction and learning that translates into real-life situations. This could be at a local college or even online! Lynda.com is a great online learning platform that I have used myself, and you can even try it for a month for free and take the courses that interest you. There are many others in addition to Lynda.com as well, just be sure to find the best fit for you. Online courses are a great way to learn something brand new or even brush up on your skill set!

2- Volunteer Not only is it fantastic to give back, but hiring managers LOVE to see you have selflessly given your time to a cause. It shows you are committed, you care, and most importantly you want to make a difference! It will also potentially help you gain experience in that field and build connections.

3- Shadow someone in your field Unfortunately, businesses do not always have the time or money for official internships, but some will allow you to shadow someone for a week or two to learn how things work in their particular business or industry. Send emails to prospective businesses. Make sure to let them know your intentions and that your presence will not be disruptive. Tell them you want to learn from the best ; ) Shadowing someone in your field of interest will allow you to build connections and potentially open the door to new opportunities.

4- Consider an internship Although you will be working for free for a little while, the experience you will gain (and later add to your resume) is invaluable! You can even look for internships on Jobcase. Simply go [here] (https://www.jobcase.com/jobs/search) and add your location and the word “internship” to find an opportunity near you! An internship could lead to future jobs within that company, so make sure to put your best foot forward while you are there!

I hope this was helpful : )

I do not, and will not apply for jobs I have little or no experience with. For that reason, I have never before been told I have no experience.

A resume is a statement of facts and accomplishments in life doesn’t really says who you are as a person or what your personality is like it might get you the interview along with other applicants however it’s up to you to sale yourself As to why your skills are tailored to the position at hand what you lack in experience you can make up and catch up by doing more than expected don’t let the job requirements intimidate you apply you never know.

I don't think it's a matter of the experience...the question is, "Do You Fit In"...Do you fit in? Because if you fit in to the environment and fit with the culture, whether you have experience or not, they can always train you. It's how you present yourself. You have to research the company you are applying for and find out the culture if they are young/old, how they dress, how they think, how they talk, if you are dealing with other ethnicity and then you adjust when you interview...Because, lastly, the resume is only the cover, when they bring into that office, the big guy will ask you what you like to do for Hobby, what you enjoy doing, and he can see right then and there how you carry yourself. I got a job just by being cool. My resume was not fixed properly, but I fit in with the culture of the Company. The Big Boss liked because I had similar hobbies to him. The current job I am working, my resume was so messed up, I don't even know if they thouroughly went through it. I do though, have two degrees. It had gramatical errors and it had no unity. I just fit in and even adjusted myself for the interview....So try that hat trick..It might work.

Hi Ashley, In regards to your post, about, you have no experience. You must first look at your overall resume.
You first must look at the content of your resume. One thing to remember, is, Volunteer Work Counts, just as much as, Paid Experience. The next thing you need to do is, list in a word document is to, type up , everything you have done, meaning, list, jobs that you have done, and start to link up, similarities, based upon that list. The result you are looking for is, more of a Profile, or a List of Strengths that you are good at, and also, things that you have done, in the past, which will make your resume POP, When you get ready to compile, everything you have done, Together. Remember, A, Resume, is a Written Record of, Everything that you have done. More Importantly, in order to get the job you want, it must be more than just what you have done. It must show what you have done, and how, effective, you were, when you were doing whatever is, you did. In that sense, Try and create a, Mental Picture for the Person, reading your resume, so when they sit down and read it, they will have a good idea, as to the person, you are, when they are considering, who to hire, for the position that they have open. In Reality, Ashley, You, Honestly, have, 10 Seconds, to Grab someone's attention, Not 30 seconds, so make your resume, standout as much as possible. Any kind of awards you have won at work, any kind of special projects, being a team leader, or leading a project. Anything that makes you stand out, as an applicant, will help you out in the long run. Short but sweet. 2 Pages, Maximum. Make the Most of It, But, Make it Pop, and Shine. Good Luck.
