COVID-19 Affecting Job Availability
Hello there! My name is Julia Bassett. I am a student attending Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. For the past several months I have been looking for a job. I need a job in order to pay my college expenses as well as find a way to pay for an apartment. Due to COVID-19, many businesses were forced to cut their employment in half or keep the people they already employed. As a result, I was not able to begin building my resume with part time employment. I am in the process of finding a job, but I find myself stuck because there are not many opportunities for people such as myself to find a job. It is rather frustrating to search for jobs online when some websites are not credible or they do not provide you the information you need. I am very concerned for people without work experience because they simply cannot find work during these uncertain times. I am not sure what solution there is out there to help these people. If there is anyone out there who has an idea of how to successfully land a job in these strange times, your advice is welcome and appreciated! I hope that you who are struggling will reach out to friends, family, professors, and other figures in your life for advice in finding work. I wish you all the best of luck! #coronavirus #advice #workfromhome #firstjob

Keep the Faith Julia that’s all any of us can do! May I ask what your major is?

❤

Thank you so much for this wonderful post, @Julia Bassett! It is a strange time for job seekers right now, for sure... but don't lose hope!
I'm not sure what you are pursuing as a major, but maybe you can consider some freelance work to keep your skills sharp while continuing to build up your resume. You may also use this "down" time to take online courses. There are a lot of sources online that provide affordable or free courses... take a look at: Lynda.com, Udemy, Khan Academy, or Coursera! These will allow you to improve on existing experience or learn new things that you can use to your advantage when it comes to interviews and job searching.
Good luck, let me know how else we can help! :)

If the quality of your post is any indication of the kind of worker you are, you WILL land a job. Great post!! To address the resume question, Ashley wrote a really helpful article Teens: land a job by creating a resume!. The good news is that you can build your resume right here very quickly - details are in the article. Hope this helps and good luck with the search!!
