Director of Information Technology looking for work with story

Team,

I recently a few months back was suddenly terminated on 11/30/18. I was with a company called Neurotech LLC based in Waukesha, WI for a year and 3 months. With that said I worked so hard I had averaged 50+ hours a week. When I came into this medical service company they had zero IT governance policy or procedure of any kind. They were literally shipping off patient laptops unencrypted to and from patient homes with patient video and PHI on them. I came in created Neurotech University (a security awareness training program the entire company had to use) I brought in and hired an in internal Sr. Software Developer Position, hired a computer technician at their IL location, automated all system patching, built a help desk from the ground up including change management and KPI essentially build a solid IT organization, which resulted in the obtaining their SOC 2 Type 2 Certification which also now made them a lot more profitable. Their claim to fame is that they were a "christian" company. During all this hard work I was also going through a divorce. When I had notified the COO that I was going through this his whole opinion of my changed. Suddenly there was a ton of weird one off meetings to the hiring of a CFO and CMO. This CMO came in demanding this and that which just weren't possible so I passionately told her what she was requesting wasn't going to happen. Keep in mind I just had my annual review told my overall rating was GOOD. In fact I also just received a 3.5% raise. Given all that I was called into the GMs office on 11/30/18 told that they thank me for my hard work but my services will no longer be needed effective immediately. I asked 3 times what did I do? They told me they were not going into that and the decision was final. I have now been unemployed for around 3 months worked a very short contract as it wasn't a great fit and now i'm divorced no money with three beautiful mouths to feed and I have never ever been this down in m life. I was not expecting this at all and they did this all right before the Christmas holiday of 2018. I have been thinking of contacting an attorney for for an wrongful termination suit. This has also drawn questions currently in my search "why the short tenure" Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi David Gilligan - I am sorry to hear about your layoff. It definitely sounds like you added a ton of value to the organization, so I am not sure why they fired you and didn't even give you a reason.

Unfortunately, Wisconsin is an at will state. So unless there was a different type of agreement in your employment contract, I am not sure an attorney is going to be the best use of your time or money right now.

Let's focus on getting you ready and into a new job. Check out this conversation for some tips on dealing with those short tenure questions. The situations aren't exactly the same, but it can definitely help you figure out how to frame it to answer their question and alleviate their concerns.
