Amazon hires ex-felons

If you are struggling to find a job due to a criminal record, Amazon has options as warehouse workers or delivery drivers that could be available for you. While the work isn't always easy, the pay is decent starting at $15 an hour and often they are willing to give you a chance.

For Ex-Offenders: Amazon's official policy is that they will not discriminate against someone with a felony. The potential candidate needs to meet all the job requirements, and pass a background check. Amazon, like most companies typically looks as far as 7 years back into your criminal history, so if your felony was earlier than that you have a better chance of getting the job. However, regardless of when your felony happened, you should still apply and make a full disclosure about your past in the application.

Starting out as a delivery driver in their Amazon Flex program is the easiest option as it require no interview or drug test outside of a standard background check. However, you will need to own a car and have a clean driving record. If your felony is connected with assault, robberies, car theft, etc, you will likely not be hired.

If you don't own a car, working at one of the Amazon Fulfillment Centers as a fulfillment associate is also an option. The requirements for warehouse roles are more stringent though. It does require you to attend an in-person hiring event with employment documents like a passport or birth certificate and pass a drug test in addition to a background check.

For warehouse roles, if you have been charged with any type of violent crimes, sex related crimes, theft and drug related crimes you will most likely not be hired but you should apply anyways.

According to research from hirefelons.org, being 100% honest about your conviction is a key factor that can determine your chances of employment. All felons that report about getting a job at an Amazon fulfillment center, share that they have been very forthcoming about their criminal past.

During the interview, make an effort to establish a personal connection with the manager and try to get him/her to empathize with your situation. If the hiring managers likes you, they will be much more willing to offer you a job, despite the felony conviction.

My oldest daughter doesn't have a high school diploma or GED, but she is working on it (only need to pass two exams) should she still apply; even though it said she must have it already?.

Well I was arrested, but was not convicted of what I was charged with. The officer charged me with Forgery which I did NOT DO! I am on a 2 year Deferred Adjudication and Probation. Very frustrating for me since I have never been in trouble in my 67 years on this Earth!

Great help to those who went astray especially young and dumb as they say. Second chances are always good if you really are sorry and have no other issues. But gun related or sex offenders I would not even consider. Tbey would have to be insane Though there are some people with a sex offender rap I know are just accused so one or tbe other can get money or the kids or both. Sick people. Worst thing u can accuse someone of when not true.!!!-!

Hard worker and determined individual to get the job done.

Not exactly. I applied at Amazon. They told me I have to wait until seven years from my release. I need a job now, not seven years from now. Companies like that make excons want to go back to prison.

It depends on the offense, which basically are lots of stealing, burglary, assault, drug or DWI cases. I was a Probation Officer for 4 years and one doesn’t get a felony for little things. I’m all up for them being given a chance to work, but sending them with people’s belongings out in their personal cars to customer’s houses ( and without drug testing) isn’t the wisest thing... at least in the warehouse they’ll be more closely supervised. Just my 2 cents..

It says Amazon hires felons but the criteria under a felony is usually all of the offenses that Amazon will not hire you for. Doesn't make sense.

I understand the concept of rehabilitation. However, I sometimes wonder if we should be putting those who broke the law before those who have not ever broken it. I am not starting a conversation here, simply putting it out there for others to think about for awhile.
