Nailed the #interview, why didn’t I get the job?!
You came out of the interview feeling confident and pretty convinced the job was yours. They loved you and you loved them, things could not have gone better...or so you thought! A week later you are sad to find out that they are not going to hire you (wait, WHAT?!)
Check out these 5 common reasons why you may not have gotten the job, and how to prevent them from occurring before the next interview!
1. Your Online Presence Did You In. Make sure to check out your social media pages and turn them to private. Also delete any content that may not be “job friendly” including pictures and posts.
2. You May Have Sounded Too Rehearsed. Repeating rehearsed answers can make it sound like you’re simply going through the motions. Make sure to show your personality! Draw from past experiences, speak from the heart about your values as they relate to the company’s mission, and don’t sound robotic or generic. Avoid phases like "I am a had worker" and replace them with "I believe I am a great fit with this company because..."
3. You Came Off As Arrogant. You of course want to appear confident during your interview, but also be humble, remember no one likes a show off.
4. You Didn’t Sound Professional. Interviewers want to see how you can represent their brand/company voice to their clients/customers; so take your time speaking clearly and concisely, without the “likes” and “ummms” which sometimes can happen. When in doubt, practice first!
5. Your Personalities Clashed. It’s ok, it happens. You can't always fit perfectly into every single job. Just make sure not to pretend you’re someone you are not, because if your personality clashes with the company’s culture it's better to find out right away than months later.
Keep looking and stay strong Jobcasers!! You've got this!

I think these are all VERY true especially with social media. Your political and personal views can really hurt you if you publicly flaunt them on there. Not everyone will agree with your ideas even if they are good ones. I would do your best to clean up your Facebook pages friends because even though it says "private" sometimes accidents happen or friends tag you and things can get pretty messy. You don't want your potential job to see those things. I also agree that hiding who you are will only come back to bite you in the a#$! Make sure to be real and stay true to who you are. You want to work for a company you love not one that is impressed with someone who isn't you.

Hi Ashley, These are excellent! I might add: -Your schedule wasn't flexible enough. At the end of the day, the company has certain requirements, including when they want employees physically in the office. -You started salary negotiations and/or asking about vacation time/benefits/promotion path PRIOR to getting the job. It's ok to ask about salary range (who wants to waste time interviewing if THAT doesn't match?), but wait until the job has been offered before negotiating specifics or drilling the manager about benefits.** -Another candidate had a stronger technical skill set. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about this except to learn what skills they ended up needing the most and trying to strengthen your own skill set for your next round of interviews.
Good luck everyone! Marijoy
Anyone who doesn't think employers aren't snooping on your personal life, this should serve as a wake-up call.
I had applied for a job, went on three interviews, and had a call with the CEO who while on the phone with me was researching me. He had found my website.
I am a writer and have a few books out there. He told me, "I just purchased your book, 'Lamb of God'."
I said, "Well, it was a good run up until this point."
The book is NOT a religious book, and is highly inappropriate. It is a horror comedy novel that literally has a talking lamb with Jedi powers in it.
I never heard from them again.
