I have only had. 1 potential employer ask for a test drive if my skills. I then took it as a negotiation on a freelance project for this franchisee. I got the consult ( try out) for the inventory system for the whole franchise holdings. Got played for the 1 month of work at at higher rate than the position played and at the end they offered me the position above the one they where hiring for. Unfortunately for them because I was not 100% to get the job I kept my irons in the fire and got another consultant job 1 year contract paying double what the permanent job did.later I heard they just hired the next person they interviewed W/o a try out .so that was my experience with a try out
