Substitute Teacher at Kelly Educational Staffing

how to get your first teaching job

I graduated with a special education teaching credential from the University of Phoenix ten years ago. I tried to get a job shortly after getting my credential, but I lived in a small town in California where there were few opportunities. Now I'm in Arizona and no one will hire me, because I have no experience. Does anyone have any idea how I can get my first teaching job?

Yes, Kelly Educational Staffing, a temporary staffing agency. They can get you a substitute job for teaching. Just Google Kelly Educational Staffing, the pay is around $11 - $13 maybe more, depends on your state.

Hi Karen! Former teacher here ; ) I would say the best thing to do is to go and apply for your substitute teaching license. You can find that info from your state [here] (https://cms.azed.gov/home/GetDocumentFile?id=58fe4ef81130c01f0c1cfd32) which includes the application info, address to mail it to (or drop off in person). Best of luck!! : ) Start by subbing and then apply to schools. This is also a great way to get a taste of all the different grade levels.

Try subtitute teaching to get experience, and learn the policies and procedures. I think you will do great.

Hi Karen Weindel ,

Did you do any school placements while at the University of Phoenix? Generally this is how teachers can get some experience before they enter the workforce.

If not, don't worry. You can usually get a job as a substitute teacher many school districts without any experience. Doing so with give you experience and will possibly open some doors at that district when positions open up! Additionally, the people you work with will become a network that you can get referrals from once you do great as a sub!

I hope this helps - Ashley W. might be able to shed some more light on the matter as a former teacher!
