How would you feel if your job literally FORCED you to work overtime every week because they couldn't hire more people?!! Uhhh...should that be MY problem?

I would probably be annoyed, but I know some people like the extra money that comes with more hours. I guess it depends on what you wanted.

I would love to get paid for extra work ie overtime, I retired form the military and got paid by the month, on call 24/7, worked for months 20+ hours a day no extra money for it…but that is what a responsible thankful worker does

Nope. That's just capitalists trying to manipulate you and rob you of every drop of energy you have. I advise you look into joining or establishing a union to protect you and your fellow workers against this kind of coercion. There's nothing wrong with offering you overtime, but it's a whole other thing to force you to work when you really just need to take care of YOUR needs instead of the company's.

Being a manager myself, I understand the challenge of utilizing your team to fill in where you may not have the extra hands. I have also filled in when necessary ( i get that most managers do not), however, you should document the overtime you are working, how often you work overtime, etc. When annual review time comes up, you have the leverage to remind your manager of your team player, all hands on deck attitude. Lastly, It always helps to approach the issue with a professional, open mind and a possible resolution to follow up your complaint. Try to refrain from the "Not my circus, not my monkeys!!" mentality. :)

Good luck!

I think if they had explained to you when you first started that there would be overtime that they would want you there for…. Then it is justified. If this is something that sprang up because of changing needs, then it “should” have been offered to you as an optional…. But not demanded. You have a choice to make now. Either look for another job or stay and put up with it.

If you were being paid for your time, you should be a team player and suck it up!

It is if you want to work for there company. It's annoying but you work for them. Did they tell you about the overtime commitment you would be making when they hired you?
