Find Out If You're Blacklisted
Think you're being blacklisted by an employer? One of the best ways to do that is to call your old employer pretending to be a recruiter. Tell them you're calling about an applicant (that's you!) and then ask this ONE question: "Would you hire this person again?" If the answer is no, you're being blacklisted. Try scheduling a meeting with that employer to find out why, and if there's anything you can do to get back in their good graces.

What if the employer is shady and unprofessional and that is the reason they fired you in the first place? Should you try to get back in the DEVIL'S good graces when they are the one who wronged YOU and you did NOTHING to deserve it?

Check laws in the area or state, I think you will find that the urban myth of employers 'strict guidelines' is really just that, a myth. A quick Google search will show you what I mean. Google something like "What can a former employer say about me". I just did it and here is a quick blurb from one of the sites:
California law specifically states that this protection extends to statements about job performance, qualifications, and eligibility for rehire. However, it does not protect statements about an employee's constitutionally protected speech or activities, nor statements about an employee's union or other concerted activities.
An employer is protected if its statements are based on credible evidence and made without malice. However, the employer can be sued if it knows the statements are false or acts with reckless disregard for their trust or falsity.

Have a friend of yours who works with another company in HR call to get reference. Try to get it in writing, then sue the pants off of them!

The company I worked for for over 12 years disliked all us new drivers from a company they bought we came with the package deal . Was fired over tossing a stapler to a co worker deemed unsafe by safety dept lol . Have not been hired sense ? Asbury Envirolmental world oil . Protest them don't buy there gas ⛽️ and oils .

The employer I would call does not give info over the phone. They ask you to fax a form to be completed.

Well, that's a good idea, but most manufacturers don't re-hire anyway !!!! And most have voice mail and caller id, now !!! In case of emergency !!!

To all the persons who think that a former employer cannot elaborate about your work performance (beyond "yes" or "no" answers), you are gravely mistaken. The law is quite clear on this matter. Just Google it. As long as what they say is truthful, they can give out as much information as they see fit.
Many companies have a policy of limiting what they respond because of the possibility of a law suit, which costs time and money to fight, but that does not make it illegal to give out information as long as it's true. Again, Google it.

Regardless, that's an ILLEGAL practice, unless the employee has provenly been involved in a grave felony either of sexual nature, theft or drug abuse while on the exercise of their job (which would have led to legal arrest if handled accordingly) , absolutely NO company has the right to blacklist ANYONE who has previously worked with them, that actually if confirmed such practice could easily lead to a law suit and could cause a huge loss for that (those) companies, not mentioning the damage that such can represent to their public image as institution for the lack of professionalism from their side, once that the company has NO legal reason to blacklist such job seeker...

As a manager our company policy is to give a neutral reference. The dates of employment and job title. That's standard with all companies. Otherwise they can get caught up in a law suit. If someone says non rehire able and didn't tell you on writing, with your signature, they might be close to that line.
